Task 2: Add Meta Tags to the Home Page

It is best practice to populate the metadata for every page in CSB. For the home pages, we'll use the same metadata that we entered globally.

Steps

  1. Navigate to PagesHomeen_USDefault BrandHome.

  2. Select the gear button near the top left and select Tags.

  3. Enter the following information:

    • Page & Meta Title:Jobs at Best Run

    • Meta Keywords:Engineering, Sales, Human Resources, Management Jobs

    • Meta Description:Apply online for jobs at Best Run: Engineering jobs, Sales jobs, Human Resources jobs, and more

  4. Select Confirm.

  5. Publish.

    Note

Future exercises do not specifically direct you to add Meta Tags or Image Alt Text, but do get in the habit of doing this.

Content Pages

A standard Recruiting statement of work includes up to 14 total content and/or category pages.

  • No jobs are included on content pages; they contain information about the company culture, benefits, diversity, university programs, and so on.

  • Content pages are sometimes hosted by the customer, rather than created in CSB. In that case, add a header link to open the external page in a new tab.

  • To add a content page, click the gear icon. From here, you can add a new page or duplicate an existing page. Other options are to delete a page or add meta tags for the page (title, keywords, description).

On the Content Pages page, click the gear icon and then select the Add Page button to add a content page.

Create Content Pages

This video demonstrates how to create content pages.

Note

There is no audio in this video.

Business Example

To get practice creating content pages, you add a new link in the header: Why Work Here. You create two content pages that are accessed from that link: Company and Benefits.

  16. Publish and preview.

Task 2: Duplicate the Default Brand Content Pages to Create the Red Brand Content Pages

Once you have finished configuring the content page for the Default Brand, you are ready to duplicate it for the Red brand.

Steps

  1. Navigate to PagesContenten_USDefault BrandCompany.

  2. Click the gear icon, select Duplicate Page, and enter the following values:

    • Title: Company

    • Locale: (en_US) English (United States)

    • Brand: Red

  3. Save your changes.

  4. Duplicate the Benefits page in the same way.

  5. Navigate to the new pages under the Red brand, and on the Text component, replace "Best Run" with "The Red brand". Publish.

Category Pages

Category pages allow customers to create special pages on their career site that display jobs based on keyword, location, or other information that helps refine the list of jobs.

  • Category pages are typically used to highlight hard-to-fill and high-volume positions. Customers often label these pages as "Featured Jobs", "Career Opportunities", or similar.

  • Category pages can represent job categories, brands, locations, remote jobs, and so on.

  • As with other pages in Career Site Builder, you can configure different versions by locale and brand.

  • The instructions in this course assume that the Unified Data Model is enabled, so all fields on the job requisition template are available to use for filtering.

  • Jobs can listed on category pages based on multiple filters. For example, instead of displaying all available consulting jobs on a category page, you can restrict the listings to just those consulting jobs that are located in California or New York.

Category Pages: Leading Practices

It is leading practice for each category page to use the same layout, though different components can be used for different category pages. It is also leading practice for the customer to provide unique copy (text) and an image or video for each category page to highlight the jobs for which they are advertising.

Recommend that customers limit the amount of content at the top of category pages to reduce the amount of scrolling applicants have to do to reach the job table.

  • Category pages should be titled by Category + Jobs (or Careers) for best SEO value. Example: Operations Jobs, Marketing Jobs, Sales Careers.

  • Category page titles should use whole words, no acronyms, and should contain words that make sense to an outside candidate.

    • Example: "PM Jobs" would not be a good category page title; instead, use "Project Manager Jobs". This explains what the job is about to someone who may not know what PM stands for.

  • Jobs can and often do belong to more than one category, and can fall on more than one category page.

Example of the Best Run company's Engineering Jobs Category Page.

Create Category Pages

To create category pages in CSB, proceed as follows:

Steps

  1. Within CSB, navigate to PagesCategory and select +Add from the gear icon.

  2. On the Component Layout tab, add and configure components as usual.

On the Create New Category, enter the Name, Locale, and Brand. Then, choose Save.

From the Job List tab, categories can be defined by using the Keyword and Location boxes. In the figure below, all jobs with the word Manager in the job title are included in the category.

On the Job List tab, enter the keyword manager.

Alternatively, categories can be defined using filters from the Job List tab, as shown in the figure below. In this example, all jobs in the Engineering Division are included in the category.

On the Job Lists tab, choose Add Filter to define categories.

Note that multiple values can be selected for each field used to define the category. You can also select multiple fields by clicking the Add Filter tab again.

    Note

This is the same Add Filter button used to define the rules for job layouts and landing page job alerts.

Category Pages Mass Actions

Rather than working with each category page individually, pages can be deleted, inactivated, or activated in mass:

  • Mass as Active
  • Mark as Inactive
  • Delete
On the Category Pages, select the category checkbox and choose one of the buttons: Mark as Active, Mark as Inactive, Delete, or Add.

Best Run Scenario

Customers often create category page rules based on the job requisition Department field (mapped to Category for Career Site Builder), but it depends on your customer’s use case. Best Run decided that their departments are too specific, so they will filter their categories based on Division.

Here is a listing of where the current jobs will be referenced on the Best Run career site.

Job TitleCategory Pages
Database AdministratorEngineering Jobs
Recruiting ManagerManagement Jobs
Remote Sales ManagerSales Jobs, Red Brand Jobs, Remote Jobs

Customers typically create category pages for multiple combinations, such as New York Management Jobs, Los Angeles Management Jobs, Best Run Remote Jobs, Red Brand Remote Jobs, and so on. To reduce the amount of work for the course exercise, category page combinations are not included.

Create Category Pages

This video demonstrates how to create category pages.

Note

There is no audio in this video.

Business Example

To assist candidates in finding jobs, you create the following category pages for Best Run:

Category Page NameBrandFilter(s)Image
Engineering JobsBest Run (Default Brand)Division=Engineering2-col_engineering.jpg
Management JobsBest Run (Default Brand)Keyword=Management2-col_management.jpg
Sales JobsRedDivision=Sales2-col_sales.jpg
Red Brand JobsRedBrand=Red2-col_red.jpg
Remote JobsRedOnsite or Remote=Remote2-col_remote.jpg

Task 1: Create a Category Page by Using Filters

Most category pages are defined by using filters. In the first example, you create the Engineering Jobs category page by filtering the Division field with "Engineering".

Steps

  1. In Career Site Builder, navigate to PagesCategory.

  2. Select +Add.

  3. On the Create New Category box, for Name, enter the Category Page Name shown in the table. For example, for the first category page, enter Engineering Jobs.

  4. Select the Brand shown in the table. Select Save.

  5. On the Details tab, make the page Active.

  6. On the Component Layout tab, add the Two Columns component. Notice that the Search Results component is an integral part of the page and cannot be removed.

    1. Move the Two Columns component above the Search Results component.

    2. Select the gray box for the new component.

    3. On the Details tab, for the Header Text, enter Engineering Jobs.

    4. Click the T icon next to the Header Text. Change the Size to 32 and change the Color to Best Run Blue. Click Close.

    5. For Body Text, enter Best Run has the best Engineering jobs!

    6. Select the T icon above Body Text and change the Size to 18. Select Close.

  7. Select the Styles tab.

    1. Select Body Text and select Best Run Blue.

    2. Select Background Image and upload the image listed in the table above. Add Alt Text.

    3. For Image Position for Two Column components, select Middle Left. Otherwise, the text appears on top of the image.

    4. Save Draft.

    5. At the top of the window, select the back arrow next to Two Columns.

  8. Select the Job List tab.

    1. Select the Add Filter button.

    2. In the Add Filter box, for Name, select the Filter shown in the table. For the first category page, select Division.

    3. For Values, refer again to the Filter(s) column in the table. For the first category page, select Engineering. Notice that multiple values can be selected.

    4. Select Done. Your filtering selection appears on the Define Category Job List page. If additional filtering is required, select the Add Filter button again. For example, if you also needed to filter by brand or other field on the job requisition template.

    5. Select Save, and then select OK.

  9. Select Save Draft and preview.

  10. Check that any active jobs that meet the filtering criteria are presented on the page. Also notice that the category page title appears twice on the page, and that the photo is cropped. We will correct those elements now.

  11. On the Component Layout page, select the gray box to edit the Two Columns component.

  12. On the Details tab, enter five line breaks at the end of the Body Text. Preview to check that the image is not truncated. This is a feature of the Two Columns component. If there is sufficient body text, adding line breaks is not required. Add the line breaks for all of the category pages you create in this exercise.

  13. At the top of the window, select the back arrow next to Two Columns.

  14. To remove the page title above the image, click the gear icon and select Category Title Style.

    1. For Hide Category Title, select YES.

    2. Click Confirm.

  15. Also from the gear icon, select Meta Tags. Enter the following information:

    • Page & Meta Title:Best Run Engineering Jobs

    • Meta Keywords:Engineering Jobs

    • Meta Description:Apply online for Engineering jobs at Best Run

  16. Select Confirm.

  17. Select Publish and preview.

  18. To return to the Category Pages listing, at the top of the window, select the back arrow next to Category Pages at the far left. If you do not see your new page in the list, ensure that you made it Active on the Details tab.

Task 2: Create a Category Page by Using Keywords and/or Locations

The second category page you will create for Best Run is for Management Jobs. The example for Management Jobs is created using Keywords rather than filters, as shown in the table.

Steps

  1. Follow the same steps as Task 1, until you get to the Job List tab.

  2. Rather than clicking the Add Filter button, in the Keyword box, enter manager, as shown in the table. Best Run consistently names management jobs with the word, Manager, in the job title.

  3. Select Save and then select OK.

  4. Select Save Draft and preview. Ensure that the two management jobs are listed.

  5. Continue with the steps in Task 1.

Task 3: Create the Remaining Category Page by Using Filters

The remaining three category pages required by Best Run are Sales Jobs, Red Brand Jobs, and Remote Jobs. As shown in the table, all three categories will display the active Remote Sales Manager job.

Steps

  1. Follow the same steps as Task 1.

  2. Notice that all three of these categories are for the Red brand, so for Brand on the Create New Category page, be sure to select Red.

  3. When creating the Red Brand Jobs category page, enter Red Brand has the best jobs! for the Body Text.

Headers

From AppearanceStylesHeaders, configurations are made for each language and brand. Several options are configured on the Details page.

Choose whether to have the header always displayed on Desktop devices, select where the logo is displayed, and determine whether the header is to extend the full width of the site or centered.

From Header Style, you can choose to configure a custom header. Details are included later in this section.

If a custom header is not selected, you also enable the sign in the widget and local selector.

If a custom header is not selected, on the Details page, enable the sign in the widget and local selector options.
Example of a webpage with a Language dropdown list, displaying Deutsch (Deutschland), English (United States), and Espanol (Espana) options.

Header Logo

From the Logo page, upload the logo for the header.

When a candidate clicks the logo, they should be returned to the home page of the career site. For the Click URL (href) field, we recommend using the relative link (/) to represent "Home".

On the Logo tag, upload the logo for the header, give it a title, and alt text.

Header Menu

From the Menu page, build the links for the header.

On the Menu tab, build the links for the header with a drag-and-drop functionality.

Hint

To reorder links, drag and drop.

Header Links

To add the header links, choose Add and select the type of link you want to add:

  • Category link – Links to existing category pages.

  • Content – Links to existing category pages.

  • Cookie Consent Manager – Opens the Cookie Consent Manager.

  • External – Links to external sites or other pages in the career site.

  • Home Page – Links to existing home page. When brands are enabled, the home page link takes the user to that brand’s home page.

  • List – Displays a dropdown link.

  • TC Join – Links to subscribe page (Join Talent Community).

  • Top Jobs – Only used in the footer. The Top Jobs page contains system generated pages that correspond to the top job searches that directed users to the career site.

  • View All Jobs – The out-of-the box setting is only used in the footer.

In the Link Setup dialog box, select a type of a link from the dropdown list.

External Link Types

Use the External type to link to external site or to other pages on the Career Site Builder site.

When linking to an external site, always select YES for New Session, so that the page opens in a new window.

To link to another page on the CSB career site, select NO for New Session. See more information under View All Jobs.

In the Link Setup dialog box, turn the New Session toggle on to allow viewing job headers in the new tab.
In the Link Setup dialog box, turn the New Session toggle off to view All Jobs Header Links not Open in a New Tab.

Relative Links

When linking to another page on the career site, use relative links whenever possible so that the URL does not need to be replaced when moving the site from Stage to Production.

Some examples of relative links include the following:

  • / = Home pages: Often used for headers, footers, and logos, when placed on a different branded page.

    • /Red/ = Home page for the Red brand

  • /search/ = View All Jobs: Used in the Header, Featured Jobs component

    • /Red/search/ = View All Jobs for only the Red brand

In the Link Setup dialog box, specify relative links (/ or /Red/).

The first screen capture in the figure above shows how to create a header link to the Default Brand home page. The second screen displays how to link to the Red home page.

Note that locale is sticky, meaning that the locale does not need to be called out when using a relative link.

List Link Type

When you select the List link type, a dropdown list appears in the header. You can choose any Type link to add below this list.

For example, add "Career Opportunities" as a header link by using the List type, then choose +Add, and select the Category type link. All of the category pages are displayed and can be added to the dropdown list.

Another example is for a Why Work Here list link. When you choose +Add and select the Content type, all existing content pages display in the list to choose from.

Example of header links on a Best Run website and the Link Setup page where they were created.

View All Jobs Link Type

Note that the View All Jobs link type is only used in the footer. To add a link to view all jobs in the header or on the home page, such as the View All Jobs button in a Text or Featured Jobs component, use an external link, not the View All Jobs option. Do not open in a new session and use the relative link /search/.

Example of View All Jobs Link on a website and the Link Setup page where it was set up.

Landing Page Links

Most customers do not link to landing pages on their career site from within the site. For this reason, a link type is not provided for landing pages, so you will not be able to use a relative link. Use the External link type and link directly to the landing page URL.

Link to a Landing Page specified in the Source field.

When moving the site to production, you will need to manually replace any non-relative links from the stage environment, for example, links to landing pages.

Custom Headers

Customers can select additional customization options for the header by selecting Header Style: Custom from the Details page. A different header layout can be configured for each brand and locale, and for desktop and for mobile devices. Customers can have a mix of custom and default header styles on their career site.

To select additional customization options for the header, select Header Style – Custom from the Details page.

In this example, the customer requested that the logo appear at the top left with the menu options to the right. Below that, a line was added across the full width of the page. Below the line, a text box was added in the center of the page with the Sign in and Language component to the right.

The Best Run company's Custom Header Example.

To create this custom header, three rows were added. Each row can hold a maximum of four components. For this example, the Header Menu was expanded to fill three slots, the Line spans all four slots, and the Text component spans the middle two slots. Once created, currently the rows and components cannot be moved, so plan the header carefully before beginning to configure.

View the figure, Custom Header Editor: Desktop Layout, to see how the example was configured.

Custom Header Editor: Desktop Layout as explained above.

Custom Header Configuration

The components that can be added to a custom header are as follows:

  • Image

  • Line

  • Menu

  • Sign-In and Language

  • Text

Add components to a custom header. Choose between Image, Line, Logo, Menu, Sign-In and Language, and Text.

The Sign-in and Language component is required. Some components have a Styles menu. See the figure, Custom Header: Styles tab, which displays the options available from the Styles menu for the Menu component.

The logo for a custom header can be added from either the Logo component or Image component. To use a logo that is optimized for different display settings (such as desktop and mobile), use the Logo component.

In Custom Header, Styles Tab, the options available.

Footers

From AppearanceStylesFooters, select the Details page to enter any text you’d like to display in the footer and determine whether the footer is to extend the full width of the site or be centered.

Select the Details page to enter any text you’d like to display in the footer and determine whether the footer is to extend the full width of the site or be centered. To add a footer image, turn the Footer Image toggle on. On the Logo tab, add the logo title, image, Click URL (href), and image position.

If you select YES for the Footer Image, the Logo menu displays. Configure the footer logo in the same way as the header logo.

Row Menu and Column Menu Footers

Select either Row Menu or Column Menu to add links to the footer. In the figure below, both the Row Menu and Column Menu have been configured.

Select either Row Menu or Column Menu to add links to the footer.

To configure links in the Column Menu, choose Add to add a new list of links that will appear in a column. The text you enter in the Text field of the link list will be the column header for the links. You can choose to leave this blank, if a column label is not desired.
