Talent Search administrators can set options like keyword search and rating scale configuration using the Talent Search Settings, making them available for all users.
To change the options, navigate to Talent Search Settings using Action Search.

Settings that can be enabled include:
- Enable keyword search in Talent Search: Turns on the keyword search for the instance.
- Show Competencies and Behaviors: Activates a search on competencies. If Talent Intelligence Hub is enabled, this become Show Attributes and includes Skills.
- Rating Configurations section: Choose rating scales to be used in the search.
- Default Search Fields: Select fields that will be available by default with new Talent Search sessions.
With the appropriate talent search and default field settings, the user view is more useful and intentional. This allows the system administrator to designate the most used fields.
Keyword Search
Keyword Search allows users to use specific keywords across preindexed fields within a defined target population. This quick search method can be refined further using additional criteria in addition to a keyword query. Any succession candidates whose information matches the keyword and/or multiple searchable fields will be considered a match.
Enabling the Keyword Search requires three steps:
- Read permissions for all roles (Everyone (<role-name>*</role-name>)) should be defined for the fields in the Succession Data Model (Provisioning). For example, if you want to make the "division," "department," and "title" fields searchable by keyword, the following should be defined in your Succession Data Model:Code Snippet1234567<element-permission type="read"> <description>Keyword Search field permissions</description> <role-name>*</role-name> <standard-element-ref refid="division"/> <standard-element-ref refid="department"/> <standard-element-ref refid="title"/> </element-permission>
This step requires engagement from Cloud Product Support to configure the fields in your Succession Data Model. See 2252666 - SCR Form: Supported XML Software Change Request for Succession Org Chart & Succession Data model for information on the process to request this change.
Note
Users with Talent Search access can use Keyword Search on all defined fields, limited to their target populations. Include only searchable standard elements. Search permissions for Background Elements are handled by checking read permissions in the Succession Data Model and Role-Based Permissions. Results are returned for fields set to "read permission for Everyone" and included in the user's Talent Search permissions. - After the permissions are defined in the Succession Data Model, you must contact Product Support to set up your Search Index. Only data elements that have read permissions for all roles in the data model are indexed and available for keyword search.
- Once the search index has been created, navigate to Talent Search Settings and choose the Enable keyword search in Talent Search option.
Show Competencies and Behaviors/Show Attributes
If enabled, all competencies and behaviors in all libraries are displayed for searching background elements (including skills if Talent Intelligence Hub is enabled). For customers whose users are confused by this, or if they have many competencies (which can cause the search page to take a long time to load), admins can disable this feature.
Enable Capability Picker
Users can use the new competency picker to add competencies in Talent Search. They can select competencies by competency libraries and search for competencies using keywords.
As a prerequisite for this feature, Job Profile Builder must be enabled and the data migration to Job Profile Builder completed successfully.
Rating Configurations
This option allows you to define the source of ratings to be used in Talent Search.
Choose Process: Options available here can be created or modified through the Processes and Forms tool in Admin Center. Choose All rating sources to pull ratings across Forms, Employee Profile (Import/Manual), Calibration sessions, and so on.
Search Talents based on their (All ratings or Latest Rating): Defines which system pulls in the search criteria; choose all of the employee's ratings or just the most recent rating.
Search Job Info based on (As Of Date or Date Range): Available for Employee Central users only.
Default rating scale for advanced search criteria (Advanced Information & Competencies/Attributes): Rating scales that appear in this area are configured through the following tools:
- Rating Scales (Admin Center → Performance)
- Matrix Grid Rating Scales (Admin Center → Succession)

Default Search Fields
If your system is configured with many available search fields, you may find it useful to recommend which fields to start with when using Talent Search. When you define default search fields, which apply to all users, the system validates the default fields against the searchable field permissions assigned to the logged-on user's role. Then, only the fields that meet both criteria are displayed. Users can add more search fields (based on their permissions) and save searches for future use.
System administrators can configure the default search fields from the Talent Search Settings screen.
Once a search is performed, users can return to the default field settings using the Start Over option.

Hyperlink Configurations
The hyperlink allows an Admin to configure the "i" icon in the Talent Search page to route to a hyperlink or deep link within SAP SuccessFactors.
