Configuring the Matrix Rating Scale

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure the Matrix Grid Rating Scale

Configure the Matrix Grid Rating Scale

The Matrix Rating Scale setting controls how many grids you have in the matrix reports. There are four standard and two custom rating scales that you can use to build your matrix grid reports. For each rating scale, define the number of levels (grids) to report and labels for each rating.

The available rating scales and the corresponding background element (trend element) are as follows:

  • Performance (based on sysOverallPerformance)
  • Potential (based on sysOverallPotential)
  • Competency (based on sysOverallCompetency)
  • Objective (based on sysOverallObjective)

Custom background elements can replace any of the four elements listed above:

  • Custom 1 (based on sysOverallCustom1)
  • Custom 2 (based on sysOverallCustom2)

Note

If you use text replacement in your system, avoid labels that include a forward slash (/), including localizations, because the export function for Matrix Grid reports cannot process that special character.

Custom elements allow flexibility for the customer to measure a data point that is more meaningful to the organization than performance, potential, competencies, or objectives. The data performs similarly in behavior to the four standard trend elements but can only be used for the following:

  • Import ratings into the live profile with the trend data import.
  • Enter ratings directly into the People Profile.
  • Display ratings on the matrix grid reports.

Thus, they cannot be used for other functions such as:

  • Capturing overall ratings on forms.
  • Displaying in the Scorecard Overview or Rating History portlets.
  • Displaying on succession org chart nodes (this is planned for the future).
Select the Matrix Grid Rating Scales.

To configure the scale:

  1. To navigate to Matrix Grid Rating Scales, using Action Search.
  2. Select the Rating Scale that you wish to edit and choose Edit.
    1. Each "scale" is an axis on the report and they should be configured in pairs: Performance and Potential, or Competency and Objective.
  3. Select the Scale Size, which controls how many rows are there in the report for that axis. Maximum size is 20.
  4. For each level of the rating scale, enter a Label for each locale. Each locale must be labeled in order to save the scale.
  5. Choose Save Changes.
The Rating Scale settings are displayed.

Note

The size and number of levels for each rating scale is completely up to the customer. While Matrix Grid Reports are often 3x3 for 9 grids, you can set one axis to have just one level and the other axis to have five levels.
