Defining Pool-Based Nominations

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Understand pool-based nominations
  • Enable Talent Pools

Talent Pool Overview

To get a brief overview of the Talent Pool topic, watch this video:

Talent Pools allow you to group your successors into "pools," and offer an alternative approach to succession planning. A common practice is to nominate individual, named successors to top-level positions and to associate Talent Pools to lower-level positions.

MDF Talent Pools follow a different concept compared to legacy talent pools (EOL 2019). It offers the following organizational and functional benefits for Succession Planning:

  • Identify High Potential Employees for critical roles
  • Ensure Business Continuity for key positions
  • Group talent for nonsuccession related needs (for example, development plans, rotation programs, or high-potential pools)

Nominations to Talent Pools are:

  • Able to include a readiness level with comments/notes
  • Effective-dated
  • Approved or rejected using Role Based Permissions
  • Capable of allowing participation to multiple Talent Pools
  • Created dynamically using Job Profile Builder
  • Integrated with other SAP SuccessFactors modules
  • Reportable

Pool-Based Nominations

Talent Pools enable organizations to scale their succession planning effort and begin identifying, tracking, and preparing candidates for future roles even before a specific target position has been defined. Managers can nominate an employee to a Talent Pool at any time.

Enabling Talent Pools

Talent Pools are enabled through Provisioning with the following procedure:

  1. Log in to Provisioning.

  2. Choose Company Settings.

  3. Verify the prerequisites for the MDF Talent Pools and activate them if they are not already activated. Note that the prerequisites for MDF Talent Pools are the same as the MDF Positions.

    1. Role-based Permissions (this disables Administrative Domains).
    2. Enable Generic Objects – requires "Enable the Attachment Manager"
    3. Enable the Attachment Manager.
  4. Enable New MDF Pool-based Succession Planning.

  5. Save any changes in the corresponding section.

Select the New MDF Pool-based Succession Planning (requires v12 UI framework, Generic Object) checkbox.

Note

After the activation in Provisioning, there may be a delay before the Talent Pool object becomes available in Configure Object Definition. If after a few minutes it is still not available, you can check the steps outlined in Knowledge Base Article 2473257: 2473257 - MDF Objects not available in Configure Object Definitions - SAP for Me.
