  • Enable Talent Pool role-based permissions
  • Configure RBP Target Populations for Talent Pools

Configuring Object Permissions for MDF Talent Pools

Once the Talent Pools are activated in Provisioning, Role-Based Permissions (RBP) have to be defined to configure and use the Talent Pools. Like other objects built on the Metadata Framework (MDF) (for example, the Position object), Talent Pools rely on RBP to define which user roles get access.

Talent Pools are MDF Objects, and like the Position Object they allow you to apply several types of permissions.

For administrators to configure the Talent Pool object, they first need to have access to Configure Object Definitions under the Metadata Framework category. Administrators will then be allowed to edit the Talent Pool object using Configure Object Definitions in Admin CenterCompany Settings.

Configure Object Definitions allows administrators to:

  • Define the MDF Talent Pool object (that it is secured for the permission category Miscellaneous Permissions)
  • Add translations
  • Add and define custom fields
  • Create and associate an MDF picklist
  • Define Searchable Fields if filters are necessary in the Talent Pool page
  • Configure Security Settings

For additional information about configuring the MDF Talent Pool object, refer to Configuring the MDF Position Object. Included are instructions for configuring the object permissions and securing the object.

Talent Pool Role-Based Permissions

The first set of Talent Pool permissions are found under the Succession Planner permissions. You can differentiate between users who have permission to create and edit Talent Pools and users who have permission to nominate individuals to talent pools.

Under Succession Planners Permissions, the Talent Pool Nominations are displayed.

Following are the options available for Talent Pools under Succession Planner permissions:

  • View Talent Pool nominations.
    • When this permission is active, users can see nominations within Talent Pools.
    • If this permission is inactive, users can see the Talent Pools, but not the nominations within the Talent Pools.
  • Add, edit, or delete Talent Pool nominations.
    • Provides permission to add, edit, or delete nominations to Talent Pools.
    • The option to view Talent Pool nominations is a prerequisite for this permission.
  • Approve or Reject Talent Pool Nominations.
    • Provides permissions to approve or reject nominations to Talent Pools.
    • The option to view Talent Pool nominations is a prerequisite for this permission.
  • Hide Talent Pool Page.
    • Hides the entire Talent Pool Page for this role.

Configuring RBP Target Populations for Talent Pools

Object level permissions can be combined with a refined target population to limit access to subsets of specific Talent Pools. Target population permissions key off the attributes in the Talent Pool object definition. Note that this does not change the access to Pool members – only to the Pools themselves.

Target Populations can be defined in the Assignment area of RBP for the role you’re permissioning. Edit the Assignment, and Step 3 allows you to specify the target population for any objects that have been configured in the instance. By default, the target population is set to All. However, you can restrict access to Talent Pools based on specific fields within the Talent Pool object.
