Configuring Drill to Detail

WFA on SAP HANA

This unit looks exclusively at tools available for WFA on SAP HANA. Customers with WFA on SQL server will not have access to these tools. For more information, check the Workforce Analytics on SAP HANA FAQ document on the SAP help portal.

What is Drill to Detail?

Workforce Analytics Drill to Detail (DTD) enables appropriately permissioned users to drill down to the individual employee records that comprise the selected result.

Example of a drill to detail on a Result Analysis View.

Drill to Detail is available in table/pivot views by default on standard Measure pages and can be made available by report designers in table views on custom report pages. When viewing a measure results in a table, Drill to Detail is available if the cursor changes to a hand (indicating a clickable link) when hovering over an individual result. In the example above the Drill to Detail results will show the employee records that comprise the Average Age of 34 for Physically Challenged employees in Australia.

Drill to Detail will automatically exclude columns from the view if they are not applicable for the selected measure. For example, if the Recruitment Source dimension columns are included in the DTD configuration, they will only be displayed when using DTD on Movement In type measures. They will not display when DTD is used on certain other types of measures such as Headcount measures.

WFA on HANA Admin– Overview

Screen components of the WFA on HANA Admin tool.

To open the WFA on HANA Admin tool, navigate to Admin link on the Workforce Analytics page and select the tool.

  8. Choose how the records in the DTD results are sorted.

  9. Mark a column as a sensitive field for read logging.

Key Columns

Select from key columns, integral to the measure results.

Key ColumnDescription
PERSON_IDDisplays the column chosen as the Primary Person ID in the WFA on HANA implementation. In a typical implementation, this is the employees Person ID from their Employment Information portlet.
USERS_SYS_IDDisplays the column chosen as the Secondary Person ID in the WFA on HANA implementation. In a typical implementation, this is the employees Users Sys ID from their Job Information portlet.
Effective From DateThe date at which the employee’s record starts. Typically, this is sourced from the Effective Start Date in the relevant table.
Effective To DateThe date at which the employee’s record ends. Typically, this is sourced from the Effective End Date in the relevant table.
Current MeasureThe results for that employee record for the measure that the user is displaying Drill to Detail results for.

Dimension Columns

Select from columns related to each dimension. The list of available dimensions available will change in accordance with what is currently implemented in the instance.

Dimension Level SelectionDescription
IDDisplays the ID/Code applicable to the employee record for the dimension. In a typical implementation, this is the objects External Code.
NameDisplays the Name/Label applicable to the employee record for the dimension. In a typical implementation, this is the object's External Name.
Parent IDDisplays the ID/Code of the parent for the ID (if the dimension ID is part of a multi-level/parent child structure).
Parent NameDisplays the Name/Label of the parent for the ID (if the dimension ID is part of a multi-level/parent child structure).
Level X IDDisplays the ID/Code of the selected Dimension Level for the ID (if the dimension ID is part of a multi-level/parent child structure).
Level X NameDisplays the Name/Label of the selected Dimension Level for the ID (if the dimension ID is part of a multi-level/parent child structure).
Add a dimension level.

The Level X ID/Name columns in a dimension allow you to display that dimension’s structure as part of the DTD results.

Example display on multiple dimension levels.

For example, you can see that the employee in the first record (User Sys ID = 100095) is in the Philadelphia location, which rolls up through Newtown Square > Pennsylvania > United States.

Attribute Columns

Example columns, Pay Component Code and Frequency Code, in Total Workforce Annual Salary.

Attribute columns contain the list of columns that are attributes to related dimensions. The list of available attributes will change in accordance with what is currently implemented in the instance.

Code: Displays the ID/Code of the attribute for its related dimensions.

For example, you see that these two employees (User Sys ID = 107026 and 107023) have Pay Component code BASE_CN and Frequency code of MON for their Total Workforce Annual Salary.

Adding New Columns

Add new columns via drag and drop.

Drag and drop to add new columns to the DTD display.

Add the dimension level.

If adding a Level X column, choose which level of the dimension you wish to use.

Display the dimension level in Column Info.

Column Info will show the level selected.

Editing Columns

Edit column components.

Select a column and click edit columns to change its display label or mark as sensitive for read access logging.

Hint

You cannot mark some fields as sensitive. The setting may be read only because the field is marked sensitive in the source module

Column Display Name shows renamed columns.

Relabeled columns will show a Column Display Name.

Setting BizX User for Profile Preview

Is BizX User ID option is checked in the Edit popup box.

Select the column that contains the employees User Sys ID, select Edit columns and check Is BizX User ID to enable the Profile Preview on that column in the DTD results.

Display profile preview in drill to detail results.

This column will now appear with the Profile Preview link in the DTD results.

Change the Column Order

Use Move Up and Move Down to change the order of the columns.

Change the order of columns in the DTD display using Move Up and/or Move Down.

Set Column Sorting

Select columns to be included.

Choose which columns the DTD display will be sorted in Order Drill to Detail Results.

Note

Remember to save as you make changes to the Drill to Detail settings.

Configuring Dimensions

Overview of Dimension Editor

Dimension Editor allows Workforce Analytics on SAP HANA or Analytics in Employee Central Admins to manage their Dimensions – including changing where dimension nodes are placed in the dimension and/or adding labels to dimension nodes.

Only dimensions that are configured as Manually Maintained during the WFA implementation process can be edited using Dimension Editor.

You can Access Dimension Editor WFA Dimension Editor in the Admin Center:

Options of the WFA Dimension Editor via Admin Center.

Dimension Editor Terminology

Example of terminology in the Dimension Editor.

This table lists the frequently used words and terminology in Dimension Editor:

TerminologyExplanation
ChildThe dimension node(s) that belong to the selected dimension node. For example, Regular Full-Time is the child of Regular.
Derived measuresMeasures which use a dimension node or nodes to filter the measure results. For example, the EOP Headcount – Temporary measure is created by filtering/slicing EOP Headcount by the Temporary dimension node.
Mapping, mappedWhere a dimension node currently sits in the dimension. For example, Regular Full-Time is mapped to Regular.
ParentThe dimension node to which the selected dimension node "belongs". For example, Regular is the parent of Regular Full-Time.
Remapping, remappedMoving a dimension node from its existing place in the dimension to a new parent. For example, you would like to remap Regular Full-Time to Employment Type.
SlicingFiltering results by a dimension node or nodes.
Standard NotesDefault nodes in the dimension that are used to create Derived Measures and contribute to benchmarking results. These nodes are identified by the hash (#) used at the beginning of their Node ID. For example, #REG and #TEMP are standard nodes.

Standard nodes are default nodes automatically generated within dimensions and are used to identify dimension nodes required for selected measures.

You can manage which employees are included in certain measures by ensuring the right mapping of nodes into these default standard nodes. For example, to ensure all temporary employees are included in the EOP Headcount – Temporary measure, map any Employment Type codes for temporary employees into the #TEMP node in the Employment Type dimension.

Unmapped Nodes

Each time the WFA on HANA data is processed, it will identify and collect any new codes in the data and assign them into the Unmapped parent grouping in the dimension to which the node belongs.

It is recommended that the dimensions in the Dimension Editor are frequently reviewed for the Unmapped grouping and any codes within are remapped to their appropriate parent or place in the dimension.

Hint

Once this is done for all codes in the Unmapped group, Unmapped can be deleted and it will not reappear in the dimension until a new code for that dimension is identified.

Using Dimension Editor

You can use dimension editor to configure you structural and analysis dimensions. The following sections outline those actions.

Relabeling a Node

Example of relabeling a node in Dimension Editor.

To relabel a node, click in the Long Name field and type in the new label.

Remapping a Node

Components to move a node.

To move a node to a different parent, perform the following steps:

  1. Choose the node.

  2. Select Move Node.

  3. In the pop-up window choose which parent to move the node to.

  4. Select Move.

For example, Remapping the No node from the Unmapped parent to the Non-Physically Challenged parent.

Sort Ascending or Descending

Sort options in the Dimension Editor, ascending or descending.

Sort ascending or descending sorts by the node label, the children of the node selected.

Moving Up or Down

Ability to move options up or down in the Dimension Editor.

Move up and move down moves nodes up or down the ordering within their parent grouping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question or issueAnswer
I cannot see the Dimension Editor in Admin ToolsConfirm that you have either the WFA on HANA Admin permission or the WFA on HANA Data Factory in Role Based Permissions.
I cannot edit a dimension – it is grayed outGrayed dimensions are not available for editing from Dimension Editor as they are not configured as Manually Maintained. These types of dimensions are typically structural and (due to their size/number of nodes) it is more efficient to generate and maintain these dimensions via the WFA on SAP HANA or Analytics in EC processing. For WFA on SAP HANA instances, please see your Technical Consultant for additional information on how to make changes to this dimension. For Analytics in EC instances, please refer to the Analytics in EC Overview for a list of which dimensions are available for maintenance via Dimension Editor.
I cannot change the label for the Dimension NameDimension Editor does not support the editing of dimension name labels. Please use the Dimension Override function (available in the WFA Admin menu to suitably permissioned users) to change the dimension name label.
When will the changes I have made in Dimension Editor appear in my WFA on SAP HANA or Analytics in EC results?Any edits made in Dimension Editor (once saved) will appear in the WFA on SAP HANA or Analytics in EC results immediately.
Can I enter translations for dimension nodes and/or dimension name labels?Dimension Editor currently supports a single label for dimension nodes and whilst this label can be in a language other than English (US), please note that all users (regardless of their language preferences) will see the label that has been saved for the dimension node. Additional language labels are supported for dimension names via the Dimension Override function available from the WFA Admin menu to appropriately permissioned users.
