Business Intelligence versus Purpose Built (WFA)

Workforce Analytics offers more flexibility.

SAP SuccessFactors WFA:

  • Comprehensive libraries of HR-specific metrics, analysis, benchmarks, and guidance for HR and the entire organization.

  • No customer warehouse or related infrastructure required.

  • Pre-delivered extractors from SAP (and other HR systems).

  • Deployed in the cloud.

SAP Analytics:

  • Flexible enterprise toolset based on SAP BW, SAP HANA, SAP BI, and SAP Analytics Cloud.

  • Selected pre-defined content for dashboards, cubes, and queries.

  • Standard SAP systems integrations.

  • Deployed on premise and in the cloud.

SAP Analytics Cloud/ Digital Boardroom and SAP SuccessFactors

SAP SuccessFactors is one of many data sources for SAP Analytics Cloud.

SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) includes a connector supporting Workforce Analytics. This connector allows users to import data from WFA for analysis and inclusion within SAC models and stories. Stories form the basis of Digital Boardroom presentations, allowing WFA data to appear in these presentations.

Note

You can use the connector with both SAP SuccessFactors Workforce Analytics on both MS SQL and SAP HANA. The Workforce Analytics Connector also supports new Model, also known as a model with measures, within SAC.

How are SAP SuccessFactors Analytics and SAP Analytics Cloud Different?

SAP SuccessFactors Analytics:

  • Curated analytics content.

  • Integrating data (primarily HR) from SAP and 3rd parties.

  • Leveraging SAP SuccessFactors resources (managed) to build and maintain data models, transform and load data, and ensure data quality and security.

  • Customer can create own queries, metrics and dashboards.

  • Roles: HR Professionals and Analysts as producers; executive and managers across the organization as consumers

SAP Analytics Cloud:

  • Agile analytics tools.

  • Integrating data (any source) from SAP and 3rd parties.

  • Leveraging customer IT, analytics and data science teams (self-service) to manage the entire data acquisition and preparation process.

  • Customer can create own queries, metrics and dashboards.

  • Roles: BI Professionals and Data Scientists as producers; selected executive and leaders as consumers.

Introduction Activities

Consultant roles in the implementation project.

The implementation project for WFA has two consultant roles: functional and technical. The implementation process is designed for each of the roles to be provided by separate individuals/groups as the primary skills desirable in the roles are different. Therefore separate courses exist for each role, with some shared content between the two courses.

In either role, the consultant must know:

  • The high-level overview of the product and where it fits in the SAP SuccessFactors analytics solution.

  • How to utilize the application.

  • The Implementation Methodology and the actions the functional/technical consultant must perform.

For the functional consultant, additional content is included that focuses on administering WFA, including:

  • Managing users, roles, and permissions.

  • Managing customer-facing administrative tools for WFA on SAP HANA.

For the technical consultant, there are more pre-requisite knowledge and courses recommended that are related to:

  • Understanding Employee Central Data and Data Structures.

  • Solid knowledge with utilizing SQL for configuring HANA databases.

  • General knowledge on Business Intelligence (BI).

WFA can be implemented as traditional WFA (on SQL Server) or WFA on SAP HANA. While the implementation process is similar in either case, there are some differences. The primary difference is in traditional WFA, the technical consultant role is performed by a dedicated SAP team of consultants, while in the WFA on SAP HANA, the technical role can be supplied by the SAP partner implementation consultants.

Customer Requirements

You will be supporting a new implementation of WFA for the Company ACME Boots. The first project will implement the metrics pack Core Workforce and Mobility, as their HR information system is SAP on premise. You need to familiarize yourself with the metrics pack to anticipate questions and explain the documentation to ACME’s project team. To facilitate this study, the exercise asks both questions to emphasize points of understanding and questions that the customer may also ask.
