Imagine that as a consultant you have already presented and explained the most important organizational units for the supply chain to your customer and worked out an organizational structure with him. Now you need to map the agreed organizational structure in the system.
Note
The organizational units relevant for Supply Chain are presented in the learning journey Exploring Business Scenarios in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, Supply Chain. It also provides decision support for defining organizational units.Introduction and Refresher
The organizational structure is configured in SAP Central Business Configuration System (CBC) for all new SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition implementations.
In the Realize phase of the SAP Activate methodology, the backend system is the customer Development System.
In the Explore phase, you typically use the pre-configured organizational structure of the Starter System, but you can extend it and create custom organizational entities.
Note
We assume that you are familiar with some terms and concepts, such as the SAP Activate terminology or the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition system landscapes. If you need a refresher, take the Implementing SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition learning journey. In CBC, you first define the scope. You can then use the Set Up Organizational Structure application to easily create and customize the organizational structure of your customer's company. The selected scope determines which organizational units are required to execute the underlying processes. The system also performs consistency checks to ensure that all organizational hierarchies contain the relevant entities (for example, each plant must have at least one storage location if logistics is included in the scope) and that all required links are defined (for example, each distribution chain must have at least one plant assigned).
You can study the following learning journey to refresh your knowledge and to become familiar with the configuration in SAP CBC once again: Leveraging SAP S/4HANA Cloud with SAP Central Business Configuration
Setting up the Organizational Structure for Supply Chain in CBC
Start the demo below to learn specifically how to do the following:
- Create a plant in an existing company code and assign it to a purchasing organization
- Create a storage location in the new created plant
- Create a shipping point
- Assign the new shipping point to the new plant
Note
The demo takes place in SAP Central Business Configuration. In this demo, the backend system corresponds to a customer Development System environment in the organizational structure setup phase.
The previous demos showed how to create and assign plants, locations, and shipping points in SAP Central Business Configuration (CBC).
