Determining Shipping Data

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure shipping data determination

Plant Determination

Watch the following video to learn how the delivering plant is determined when a sales order is created. The delivering plant is then automatically transferred to the corresponding delivery document.

You are now familiar with the determination of the supplying plant for deliveries.

Shipping Point Determination

Watch the following video to learn how the shipping plant is determined when a sales order is created. The shipping point is then automatically transferred to the corresponding delivery document.

The shipping point depends on the following criteria:

  • The delivering plant determined for each order item
  • The required loading equipment maintained in the Loading Group field in the material master record
  • The shipping requirements (for example, express shipping) stored in the Shipping Conditions field at header level in the sales order

We have already seen how the system determines the delivering plant.

The loading group is stored in the product master.

We still need to explore what the shipping conditions are and how they are determined.

  • The shipping conditions field in the sales order header describes how the goods have to be delivered to the customer. For example, you might offer your customers the choice between express delivery and standard delivery. Some customers might choose express delivery to ensure that their goods are delivered quickly, and might pay extra for this, while others might be satisfied with a standard delivery once a week.

  • The system determines shipping conditions for a sales order based on the following priorities

    1. The sales document type

In configuration, using the Define Shipping Conditions by Sales Document Type configuration activity, you can specify a shipping condition for individual sales document types.

    2. The customer (sold-to-party or ship-to party)

You can maintain shipping conditions in the customer master record.

In addition, in the configuration of the sales document type, a field called Shipping Conditions from Ship-to Party Master Record is available. This allows you to choose from which partner (sold-to party or ship-to party) you determine the shipping conditions for each sales document type.

The following values can be entered in this field:

      • Blank - The shipping conditions are retrieved from the sold-to party

      • A - The shipping conditions are retrieved from the ship-to party

      • B - Shipping conditions are retrieved from the ship-to party, unless they are not maintained, in which case they are retrieved from the sold-to party

Note

Specifying a shipping condition for a sales document type overrides the entry in the customer master record.

To configure shipping point determination, in your configuration environment, locate and select the Assign Shipping Points configuration activity. You can assign the appropriate shipping point to the combination of shipping condition, loading group and plant.

The screenshot shows the Assign Shipping Points configuration activity. For example, you can see that shipping point 1010 is assigned to the combination of shipping condition 01, loading group 0001, and plant 1010.

Route Determination

The route describes how the materials in an outbound delivery are to be transported from the shipping point to the destination.

Route determination is performed automatically for each delivery-relevant item in the sales document, using specific data from the customer master, material master, shipping point, and possibly the document type of the sales order (for example, Rush Order).

  • The country and departure zone assigned to the shipping point (in the configuration)

  • The shipping condition from the sales document type or the customer master of the sold-to party or ship-to party (depending on the configuration of the sales document type)

  • The transportation group assigned to the material in the material master record

  • The country and transportation zone assigned to the ship-to party in the customer master record

In the sales order item, you can manually overwrite the route determined by the system. In the outbound delivery, you can redefine the route based on the weight (weight group). The configuration of the delivery type determines whether the route must be redetermined.

To configure route determination, in your configuration environment, locate and select the Maintain Route Determination configuration activity.
