Using SAP Formula Functions

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create and use SAP functions in the Excel formula editor.

SAP Formula Functions

You can use SAP-specific formulas to enhance the appearance of your workbook.

To see a list of the SAP-specific formula functions you can use, select the Insert function (fx) icon in Microsoft Excel and then select SAP Analytics Cloud from the Select category dropdown.

To use the function, double-click it as you would any other Excel formula function.

Insert functions dialog open with SAP Analytics Cloud selected from the Select Category dropdown.

Similar to some other Excel functions, Analysis functions have different parameters to define. Refer to the Analyze and Plan with Formulas guide for complete details on all SAP functions.

Filter Components Using a Formula

The formula function SAP.GETDIMENSIONFILTER returns the filter for a dimension and an icon to open the filter dialog from the sheet.

In the example below, you can see that the SAP.GETDIMENSIONFILTER function has the following required arguments:

  • Table: Enter the table name in double quotation marks. The default name for a table is TableX, where X is a whole number indicating which order the table was added. For example, the first table added to a workbook is named Table1.
  • Dimension: Enter the dimension name in double quotation marks.
Insert functions dialog with Function arguments selected.

Work with SAP Formula Functions

Business Scenario: You used the Designer panel to set up the workbook but now you want to be able to see the full screen. You decide to use the SAP Formula Functions to add the filtering functionality directly to the worksheet.

Task Flow: In this practice exercise, you will:

  • Add filtering to your worksheet using SAP Formula Functions
  • View the filtering functionality
