Working with Add-in Planning Functionality

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Update a forecast version.
  • Add a data action to a worksheet.

Planning Functionality

Using the SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Excel, you can plan data based on SAP Analytics Cloud planning models. Watch this short video to find out more.

Key Points to Note

Data Entry: The planning scenario is based on the Mass Data Entry mode. In this mode, you can enter multiple values in a table without waiting for the system to update between entries.

Mass data entry mode prevents planning on more than one model.

Hierarchy Nodes: You can also enter planning values for hierarchy nodes. When processing data, the planning value for a hierarchy node will be applied proportionally to all unchanged elements of the hierarchy.

Restrictions: You can plan on only one model at a time. Therefore, the other tables in your workbook are disabled and the Designer panel is not available, as you can see in the example above. If you want to plan on a different model in the same workbook, then you have to disable the planning mode for the current model and start it for the next one.

To disable a model for planning:

  1. Choose a cell in the table
  2. In the builder panel, select the More ... option for the model, as shown in the following example
  3. Deselect Planning Enabled
How to turn off planning for the model in the Builder panel.

Saving Data: Selecting Process Data saves the planned values in the workbook. Selecting Publish Data saves the values to the planning model.

Data Input Control: The add-in does not support data input control, so you do not have a visual indication of the locked cells. Processing data on locked cells might be possible, but publishing is not allowed.

Data Actions: If data actions have been created in SAP Analytics Cloud, they can be added to a workbook by selecting Planning Triggers in the ribbon.

Perform Planning Activities

Business Scenario: Now that you have set up your workbook, you are ready to perform planning activities.

You need to add your forecast numbers for your accounts, so you display the forecast version, and enter the forecast number for the subaccounts. Once you enter your forecast numbers, you can then work with the planning functionality in SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Excel.

Task Flow: In this practice exercise, you will:

  • Display the forecast version
  • Enter forecast numbers
  • Work with planning functionality

Data Actions

If data actions have been created in SAP Analytics Cloud, then they can be added to a workbook by selecting Planning Triggers in the ribbon.

Watch this short demonstration to see how you can add and run data actions in your workbook using the SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Excel.
