In this video, we will explore the process of creating import data connections to an on-premise data source. In order to access on-premise data sources, the SAP BTP cloud connector is needed for all data connections. However, for connections to some data sources, the SAP Analytics Cloud agent is also required. SAP BTP cloud connector is a web server that has standard connections included. These connections will connect to applications such as SAP Business Planning and Consolidation standard, SAP Integrated Business Planning, and SAP S/4HANA. If the SAP Analytics Cloud agent web application is deployed inside of SAP BTP cloud connector, then connectors to additional data sources are available, such as SAP Business Warehouse, SAP HANA, or SAP ERP. Import data connections allow data access to remote data sources, importing a copy of data into SAP Analytics Cloud. This means that when data is modified in the remote data source, it has no impact on the data that has been copied to SAP Analytics Cloud. The SAP BTP cloud connector is software installed on the customer network that acts as a gateway between SAP Analytics Cloud and on-premise data sources. As it is installed on a dedicated host server, it is not necessary to configure firewalls for input ports, however, HTTPS entry ports must be open for output from the on-premise data sources to SAP Analytics Cloud. The SAP Analytics Cloud agent is a web application used by SAP BTP cloud connector to provide data connectivity to specific on-premise data sources. It must be installed on the same host server as SAP BTP cloud connector. Setup of an import data connection to on-premise data sources can be divided into three main steps. The SAP Analytics Cloud administrator works with a network administrator or an SAP system administrator who will complete the first two steps of the installation and configuration. Step 1. There is an SAP Analytics Cloud Agent Simple Deployment Kit available which installs all of the software in a single setup. It installs a local Apache Tomcat web server and deploys SAP BTP cloud connector and SAP Analytics Cloud agent inside of it. Step 2. After installation, a configuration step is required in SAP BTP cloud connector. An SAP system administrator adds access control rules for any required on-premise data sources. Step 3. Once the data access rules are created, the SAP Analytics Cloud administrator adds new locations to create new import data connections in SAP Analytics Cloud. If the on-premise data sources are located inside the same customer network, then only one installation is required. If on-premise data sources are spread across different customer networks, then an SAP BTP cloud connector and SAP Analytics Cloud agent need to be installed and configured for each of the customer networks. A location will have to be created in SAP Analytics Cloud for each installation. Each installation is used to import the on-premise data from the data source located on the specific customer network. For example, if the development and production data are stored on different networks. It is also possible to create import data connections to a File Server as an on-premise data source for SAP Analytics Cloud. Once the SAP Analytics Cloud administrator finishes the creation of the import data connection, it is possible for data modelers to import data from on-premise data sources by creating new import models in SAP Analytics Cloud.
