Connector Setup, Configuration and Execution

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to complete the prerequisites, subscribe to the connector, launch the connector

Set up the business process model connector

Prerequisites and Connector Setup

In this unit you will learn about the prerequisites you need to complete, and how to subscribe to the connector and launch it.

Prerequisites and Connector Setup

Laying the foundation for a seamless integration

Before you can dive into the connector, you need to set the foundation for a smooth experience and complete the following essential prerequisites.

Note

Please note, some of the prerequisites are handled by your SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) or SAP Cloud Connector administrator.

In order to best track the completion of prerequisites, check out our BPMC Prerequisites checklist to track the completion of prerequisites.

SAP Solution Manager: Assigning user rights and checking services

Before you can connect SAP Solution Manager to the connector, you need to:

  • Assign user rights: a technical user with specific user rights is needed. To create a technical user in SAP Solution Manager, follow the steps here.

  • Activate services: It is required to verify that the following services are active in transaction SICF in SAP Solution Manager:

  1. /sap/opu/odata/sap/ProcessManagement

  2. /sap/bc/icf/info

SAP Signavio Process Manager: Assigning user rights

To connect SAP Signavio Process Manager to the business process model connector for SAP Signavio solutions, a user with writing rights is required.

The standard Enterprise license comes with sufficient rights, but for technical integrations it's advisable to acquire the API license, especially when you are using a Single Sign-on. Activating the API license is a simple process and can be requested at no additional cost.

How to acquire the API license

Simply create a ticket and request the activation of an API license. Once the API license is activated, proceed to create a technical user (Tip: Use a neutral name for the technical user). Assign this API group either admin rights or specific permissions as outlined here.

Why you shouldn't use the same technical user with API license for multiple technical integrations

In case you are already using a technical user with API license for another technical integration (e.g., LeanIX), it is recommended to create a new technical user for the connector. One technical user with API license per technical integration should be created.

In case a wrong password leads to a technical user getting locked, it becomes more difficult for the support to identify the system in which it occurred, if the user is the same.

Installing SAP Cloud Connector

The SAP Cloud Connector (SCC) needs to be installed on a virtual machine at the customer site. Help documentation for SCC can be found here. Sizing information for SCC can be found here, medium size is recommended.

Creating an SAP BTP subaccount in your supported region

As an SAP BTP administrator, within your global account on SAP BTP, create a subaccount.

Important:Please create the subaccount, that you want to use for subscribing to the connector, in one of the following supported regions:

  • EU10 (AWS – Frankfurt)

  • US10 (AWS – Virginia)

Reusing existing subaccount even if you have already subscribed to other applications in this subaccount

You can reuse an existing subaccount as long as it is hosted in region EU10 or US10, even if this subaccount has already subscribed to other applications.

When your existing subaccount is not hosted in one of the supported regions, you cannot use your existing subaccount to set up and subscribe to the connector. In this case, please ask your SAP BTP administrator to create a new subaccount hosted in either region EU10 or US10.

Reusing the subaccount that you use for SAP Signavio Process Insights

You can reuse the subaccount used for SAP Signavio Process Insights if the subaccount is hosted in the supported region EU10 or US10.

SAP Cloud Connector: Connecting SAP BTP subaccount and establishing trust relationship with SAP Solution Manager

Once the subaccount is in place, your SAP Cloud Connector administrator needs to establish:

  • The connection between the subaccount and the SAP Cloud Connector, explained here.

  • The trust relationship to SAP Solution Manager, explained here.

SAP BTP subaccount: Adding entitlements

Once your SAP Cloud Connector is in place, your SAP BTP administratorneeds to add the necessary entitlements the your subaccount, explained here.

Connector Setup: Subscription, Role Assignment and Launch

Now that you successfully completed the essential prerequisites, it is time to subscribe to the connector, assign connector roles and launch it. Please note, some of the steps are handled by your SAP BTP administrator.

Subscribing to the connector

As an SAP BTP administrator, you can now subscribe to the connector.

Watch the video below or read hereto learn how to subscribe to the connector.

Assigning Roles

As an SAP BTP administratoryou need to assign roles to users supposed to use the connector, as explained here. Assigning roles enables selected users to launch and use the connector.

What user roles for the connector do exist and when to use what?

Please check here.

Who should have access to the connector?

The connector should be enabled for admins, and users or user groups responsible for executing the synchronizations. Learn here how to assign roles.

Launching the connector

As a user, you are now ready to use the connector. Learn here how to launch the application, and here how to log out.

Why can't I access the connector or why are tiles missing?

If you cannot perform a respective action, tiles are missing or you cannot access the connector at all, check in your SAP BTP subaccount if the required roles are (still) assigned to you. (Re-)assign missing roles. Re-launch the connector in incognito mode or a separate window.
