Using the SAP NetWeaver Administrator

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to use the SAP NetWeaver Administrator functionality

SAP NetWeaver Administrator Functionality

SAP NetWeaver Administrator (NWA) is a web-based tool for administration, monitoring, and problem analysis. It provides a central entry point to configure (check and make configuration settings), administer (start and end instances), and monitor (analyze log files and traces) your SAP NetWeaver system, its components, and the applications it runs.

Because SAP NWA is a web-based tool, you do not have to install the software locally. The interface of SAP NWA facilitates the smoothest transition to other SAP NWA tools such as user management. SAP NWA combines various expert tools into a simple, integrated solution.

Various functional SAP NetWeaver units are integrated in SAP NWA. This allows you to experience seamless navigation while keeping the same UI concepts and operating techniques during the administration and monitoring of these functional units.

Currently, the following functional units are integrated:

  • Enterprise service infrastructure
  • SAP NetWeaver adaptive computing controller
  • XML data archiving
  • Adobe document services
  • Process Integration Monitoring (PiMon)
  • Business intelligence monitoring cockpit
  • SAP NetWeaver scheduler for Java

In later support package stacks and releases, more functional units will be integrated into SAP NWA.

User Management Engine

You can use the User Management Engine (UME) and security features of Java Management Extension (JMX) to define the roles for SAP NWA administrators.

You must always define the following roles:

  • NWA_READONLY
  • NWA_SUPERADMIN

The roles contain authorizations to access UI elements and data in the systems that are managed. The read-only role restricts the user from making changes in the assigned systems, such as starting and stopping instances or changing the configuration. The super administrator role gives the user full control to read and write.

Identity management of SAP NWA links users and roles to one another.

Hint

For more information about the UME topic, see Identity Management of the Application Server Java.

SAP NetWeaver Administrator Sections

Start SAP NWA by entering the following URL in your web browser: http://<host>:>port>/nwa.

The host is the computer on which SAP NetWeaver AS Java is installed. The port is the HTTP port.

Work Areas

The following work areas are available after the SAP NWA is called:

  • Operation management

Operation management includes user management, commands for starting and stopping instances, the data archiving cockpit, and functions for job scheduling.

  • Configuration management

Configuration management contains the options for system configuration, such as configuring virtual computers, managing logon modules and authorizations on Application Server (AS) Java, configuring the Java Message Service (JMS) server, managing the authentication policy for AS Java, managing resources for applications, and configuring Web services and Universal Description Discovery and Integration (UDDI) protocol servers for system configuration.

  • Availability and performance management

Availability and performance management provides you with options to monitor the parameters of the operation running on your system. You can also find Java System Reports and all types of logging data.

  • Problem management

Problem management includes Java class loader viewer, Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) browser, log viewer, log configuration, and Web services logging and tracing as administration tools.

  • Service-oriented architecture (SOA) management

SOA management offers several configuration, administration, and monitoring services that apply to the exchange of messages in the following scenarios:

    • A technical configuration, for example, the configuration of provider service destinations or the configuration of the services registry

    • Business administration that you can use for mass configuration and Web services configuration

    • Log and traces that allow you to monitor Web services and various components in process integration
