Analytics: Solution Scope

Analytics: Solution Scope

SAP EHS Management provides analytical tools for the different levels of the organization - from the operations level to the corporate level. Each solution provides a different granularity of the analytical data to support the daily business.

The following solutions and functionalities can be used to analyze the environment, health, and safety data:

  • SAP Analytics Cloud: Data warehousing solution in the cloud.
  • SAP Digital Boardroom: Data visualization solution for the top management using SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • Analysis Path Framework (APN): Tool for free-style data extraction, filtering, and analytics.
  • Smart Business: Further tool for data extraction and visualization.
  • Regulatory/formatted reporting: Builds on Adobe PDF.
  • Data Search/Explore: Further EHS applications specialized on data filtering.

Note

This list represents a set of tools and technologies that build the foundation for the various reporting and analytical applications inside EHS.

Analytics from the Top Floor to the Shop Floor

Analytics from the Top Floor to the Shop Floor

With this design in mind, we can now have a broader look at how SAP delivers a consistent analytics experience from the top floor to the shop floor.

Going from top to bottom, SAP Digital Boardroom equips the executive management team in the boardroom (or any other decision-maker) for collaborative decision-making. Also, SAP Analytics Cloud delivers analytics to the company’s workforce in one product: with business intelligence, planning, and predictive capabilities. Finally, when you move to SAP S/4HANA, you get insights directly embedded into the business processes. SAP users can access these insights at the point of decision with SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics, SAP Fiori integration, and predefined best practice reports and visualizations, built with SAP Analytics Cloud.

Only SAP, with its wide scope of business process and business data availability can achieve alignment across lines of business and insights from the top floor to the shop floor.

Formatted and Regulatory Reporting

OSHA Form 300A and OSHA Form 301.

SAP EHS uses the Adobe Interactive Form technology to provide report outputs specific to certain regulations, or as the results of individual steps in business processes. This allows customers to further customize existing or build extra formatted report outputs as needed. Also, SAP EHS has electronic submittal functionality for the OSHA 300A regulation.

Standard forms include:

  • OSHA 301
  • OSHA 300
  • OSHA 300A
  • First Report of Injury
  • German Incident Form
  • Investigation Summary
  • Job Safety Analysis
  • Exposure Communication Letter

Embedded Analytics: Analytical Path Framework (APF)

Incidents - Detailed Analysis. Chemical Inventory reporting, and Current Analysis Step: Cases by Week Day and Hour.

Reporting and Analytics as an EHS base component provides reusable components that allow users to easily build interactive and role-based analytical views. One of the most used analytical frameworks is the Analysis Path Framework (APF).

The solution provides the following capabilities:

  • Interactive, drill-down views and charts.
  • Designed to work on desktops or tablets.
  • Detailed analysis based on very granular views on the set of available data.
  • Analysis path steps can be saved and shared.
  • Final report views can be saved as a PDF document.
  • The raw data can be exported to MS Excel.

APF-based applications enable business users to flexibly explore KPIs and their influencing factors by drilling down into multidimensional visualizations of data.

Example: APF Screenshots from EHS

Incidents - Detailed Analysis screen. Injuries and Illness - Detailed Analysis screen. Chemical Risk Report screen.

An Analysis Path Framework screen consists of two main areas:

  • Path area: The path is defined by a sequence of data selection and filtering steps.
  • Result area: In the result area, a graphical representation of the results of the selected analysis step are displayed as bar chart, pie chart, or line chart.

Embedded Analytics: Smart Business

Screenshots of Embedded Analytics dashboard.

Smart Business provides real-time and embedded dashboard functionality for SAP transactional applications.

  • Its interactive, drill-down views and dashboards are controlled by the same role-based authorization model as the rest of the SAP enterprise system.
  • Interactive, drill-down views and dashboards.
  • Designed to work on desktops or tablets.
  • Secondary facet filters provide reusable multi-dimensional views.
  • All views shown and updated in real time.
  • All views are available to be shown within the user’s SAP Fiori launchpad tiles.

SAP Digital Boardroom on SAP Analytics Cloud

SAP Digital Boardroom on SAP Analytics Cloud

SAP Analytics Cloud aims to provide a one-point experience for decision-making that allows users to discover, visualize, plan, and predict, all in one place.

The solution provides the following capabilities:

  • Situational overview with interactive dashboards.
  • Data exploration with first-class data wrangling functionality.
  • Connection to on premise and cloud data sources across all lines of business.

The main benefits are:

  • Give executives a complete, real time view of company situations and key figures across departments, and foster trust among leaders.
  • Blend data from different sources, create compelling data visualizations, run ad hoc reporting, and mor.

SAP Analytics Cloud Platform

SAP Analytics Cloud Platform chart showing Core Capabilities, Analytic Capabilities, Applications.

Our vision for SAP Analytics Cloud is to connect to both on premise and cloud data sources and applications. Analytics Cloud is a SaaS (Software as a Service) platform and is separated into four areas:

  • Core Capabilities: The first layer contains core capabilities that are included in all Analytic capabilities and applications such as: Data connectivity and Modeling, Administration and Auditing, Story Experience, Collaboration, Data Wrangling, Mobile access, and APIs (application programming interfaces.)
  • Analytic Capabilities: The second layer contains our three analytical capabilities:  BI, Planning, and Predictive. No other competitors have all of these Analytic capabilities.
  • Embedding Capabilities: SAP is building APIs to integrate and embed Analytics Cloud into SAP, third party, and customer applications.
  • Applications: The third layer contains the Analytical applications. SAP Digital Boardroom is an example of an Analytics Cloud application. SAP and our partners continue to look at building more analytical applications and content that can be consumed on the SAP App Center

EHS Content in SAP Digital Boardroom

Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Incident Management, and Health and Safety Management.

The following EHS-specific content is available for the SAP Digital Boardroom:

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

  • Track the company's emission reduction targets for CO₂ equivalents.
  • Monitor carbon emissions of the company and benchmark different countries.
  • Compare emissions against predefined target values or plants.
  • Make sure to reach the company’s emission reduction targets.

Incident Management

  • Analyze trends and report on the current status of incidents, near misses and safety observations.
  • Identify plants or locations where most injuries happened.
  • Find out common root causes which then can be targeted to reduce incidents.
  • Monitor the severity of injuries by showing the effect the incidents had on lost workdays.

Health and Safety Management

  • Get an overview of the risk situation at certain locations.
  • View the status of control implementations.

Benefits of Integration for Reporting

Benefits of Integration for Reporting: Consistency, Real Time, and Insights.

The benefits of integration for reporting are as follows:

  • Get access to a consistent source of truth.
  • Remove the need to maintain separate interfaces for reporting tools.
  • Leverage central ERP hierarchies like Plant, Functional Locations, Cost Centers, and Org Structure to enable both roll-up and drill-down reporting.
  • Enable a consistent security paradigm between transactional data and reporting logic.
  • Gain additional insight with ability to pull data from disparate processes within the SAP landscape.
