Maximizing Strategic Value through Integration of SAP Fieldglass with the Clean Core Strategy

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to combine SAP Fieldglass with the Clean Core Strategy to maximize the value of cloud solutions from SAP.

SAP Fieldglass and the SAP Clean Core Strategy

SAP Clean Core is a methodology adopted by SAP that enables customers to separate their core business processes from non-core processes. It allows customers to remove unnecessary data and functionality from SAP S/4HANA Cloud, reducing complexity and improving system performance. With SAP Clean Core, customers can have a leaner and more efficient system that focuses on their core business needs.

By integrating SAP Fieldglass with SAP S/4HANA and HCM systems such as SAP SuccessFactors, companies don’t have to customize SAP S/4HANA to accommodate worker procurement and management functions. Thus, the "core"—SAP S/4HANA—can remain clean and streamlined while SAP Fieldglass performs the external worker procurement functions. The transactional data generated by the non-core systems is then shared with SAP S/4HANA, providing a unified view of the company’s entire workforce.

SAP Fieldglass contributes to the Clean Core strategy by:

  • Reducing risk and helping to ensure compliance by automating time, expenses, approvals, and payments for external workforce spending.
  • Maximizing productivity with integrated, automated business processes that mirror existing organizational and financial hierarchies and cost-accounting structures.
  • Leveraging standard integrations to solve business needs without the need for custom development.
  • Keeping business users focused on the application anywhere they need to get work done.
Integrating SAP Fieldglass and other applications such as SAP Arbia, SAP Concur, SAP SuccessFactors, and SAP Analytics Cloud allows SAP S/4 HANA to focus on its core functions while also synthesizing the integrated data to provide a unified view of the entire business.

For example, an integration with S/4HANA allows for seamless, real-time collaboration when defining a services agreement. Let’s consider WorkingNet, a leading manufacturer of data networking equipment, who is embarking on a project to transform an entire floor in their headquarters building. WorkingNet will need to engage a number of services providers, such as construction crews, electricians, plumbers, and even data networking contractors, to complete the rehab work.

WorkingNet needs to define statements or work to engage these service providers. Instead of going to the time and trouble of customizing SAP S/4HANA to allow for worker and goods procurement, WorkingNet adopted both SAP Fieldglass and SAP Ariba to perform the respective procurement functions. It uses SAP Fieldglass to procure the contractors necessary to perform the work, and SAP Ariba to procure the supplies it needs to rehab the headquarters.

This leaves SAP S/4HANA free to ensure that the negotiated contract terms are adhered to and the purchase orders are automatically created. Additionally, by leveraging the power of SAP Cloud Analytics, WorkingNet can get a complete picture of the costs of the project, allowing them to make informed decisions and optimize workforce performance and goods procurement.
