SAP is reshaping its business focus to prioritize cloud-based models, supporting customer transitions to the cloud and creating an ongoing partnership throughout the customer's journey. A successful transformation hinges on three key components: people, process, and tools.
The RISE with SAP offering addresses these through the recommended steps and guidance in the RISE with SAP Methodology, supported by SAP experts and partners and implemented through tools and services.
The RISE with SAP Methodology, a framework designed to foster digital transformation and enhance operational intelligence by leveraging the clean core strategy: All services and tools work in harmony through the customer lifecycle to help customers keep extensions clean, keep data lean, keep the landscape reliable, keep processes flexible and keep operations effective and efficient.
In a nutshell, the RISE with SAP Methodology is a best practice-aligned approach to help customers transform with confidence and achieve their business objectives. By bringing predictability to implementation, making our customers innovation ready for the cloud and applying clean core principles.
The four phases of the RISE with SAP Methodology
The RISE with SAP Methodology consists of four phases:
- Discover and Evaluate: Build the clean core foundation for a successful transformation.
- Prepare and Plan: Define scope and timelines with clear tasks and execution plans.
- Move and Deploy: Transition to the cloud operational model.
- Run and Innovate: Stay up-to-date and ready to take advantage of new capabilities

Components of the RISE with SAP Methodology
The RISE with SAP Methodology brings together an enriched SAP Activate framework, a new onboarding offering, and enhancements to SAP Cloud ALM, via the following components. This methodology encompasses several components available exclusively to customers who joined after April 1, 2024. These include:
Onboarding
A dedicated advisor guides customers on RISE with SAP topics and sets up the clean core Success Plan in SAP Cloud ALM.
Clean Core Success Plan
The clean core Success Plan provides task tracking across different SAP Activate phases.
Quality-Gate Process Execution
One task in the Success Plan is the Quality Gate at the end of each SAP Activate phase. The Quality Gate is executed in SAP Cloud ALM, with progress trackable via the clean core Run Book.
Reporting & Follow-On Activities
A report is created by the SAP Enterprise Support back office after each Quality Gate. This report is then submitted to the customer's SAP Cloud ALM services function for further task-based recommendations.

In this way, the approach infuses operational intelligence and advanced tools into the process, ensuring a seamless and efficient cloud transition journey.
Integrating Frameworks, Tools, and Services for Successful ERP Transformation

As you can see in the graphic above, the phases of the RISE with SAP Methodology align with tangible milestones related to different stages of the ERP deployment based on SAP Activate and the clean core approach. Throughout this transformation journey, an integrated tool chain contributes to the success of the project. The combination of the different frameworks, with the tools and services designed to support them, comprise the RISE with SAP Methodology.
