Describing Maintenance Projects

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the options of Project-Oriented Maintenance

Project-Oriented Maintenance

In your company, inspections and repair work requiring the shutdown of an entire asset is performed at regular intervals. These tasks must be planned and monitored in the form of projects. For this reason, you require an understanding of project-oriented plant maintenance.

The graphic shows the structure of a maintenance project - consisting of WBS elements, networks and assigned orders.

You can use projects to prepare, control, monitor, and evaluate comprehensive plans. The functions range from the logistics area (scheduling, materials, work centers, and so on) to the accounting area (budgeting, assigning cost centers, updating general ledger (G/L) accounts), and so on. In Asset Management, projects are used for Shutdowns, Overhauls and major maintenance tasks, Modifications, Major Repairs as well as Investments.

Scenario PM - PS

In this scenario, projects in SAP Project System (PS) are used as a pure controlling instrument. This means, that you can assign maintenance orders to a work-breakdown structure element (WBS) to assign a budget and to monitor order costs.

Scenario Maintenance Event Builder (MEB)

You can use the Maintenance Event Builder to optimize the planning of large maintenance tasks such as revisions and shutdowns of technical assets. In this context, a project is used which allows you to monitor and control the budget, costs, resources and dates.

Watch the following video to learn more about the steps in the Maintenance Event Builder (MEB).
