What is SAP Convergent Mediation?
SAP Convergent Mediation is a backend system that is integrated with SAP Subscription Billing and SAP Entitlement Management for preparation of collected consumption data from several customer subscriptions.
Business Situation
The mediation process runs without any action from James. James will investigate the system. He would like to know if his usage collection process is running smoothly.
First, he will reflect on the differences between his printing as a service business and other subscription businesses.
Convergent Mediation CE: What Data We Collect and Why It’s Relevant

The above image reminds us of our business use cases which were laid out in Unit 1.
We can see that not all businesses with products and services have usage-related services. Take for instance hardware and software businesses. While this business model does have recurring fees, there are no pay-per-use pricing models.
Meanwhile, other industries depend on usage-related price models for their services. Pay-per-use models require the collection and preparation of data for rating usage. This data comes from different sources and in a variety of formats and needs to be collected and processed for data quality, external enrichment, auditing, and converted and prepared for SAP Subscription Billing and SAP Entitlement rating systems.
Depending on the business use case, SAP Convergent Mediation consumption data streams may only be uploaded to SAP Subscription Billing or SAP Entitlement management.
Keep in mind all the possible data sources SAP S/4HANA applications need to be interpreted.
