How to Create a Planning Area

Create a Planning Area

In this exercise, you create a planning area that is required for one or more subsequent exercises in the course.

This exercise requires you to use the time profile created in a previous exercise.

Business Example

You are a member of the project team managing the implementation of SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain solution. You want to set up the business model objects in the SAP Integrated Business Planning system. Based on your blueprint, you now need to set up a planning area. The planning area is a set of configuration elements that defines the structure and forms the backbone of the planning process.

When the data values for the exercise include ##, replace ## with the group number that the instructor has provided to you.

Steps

  1. Using the Planning Areas Model Configuration app, create a planning area using the planning area ID T##, and assign the previously created attributes of master data types T##CUSTOMER and T##PRODUCT. Use the following data:

    T## Planning Area Header

    FieldValue
    DescriptionT## Planning Area
    Time Profile20##
    Current Period Offset0

    Planning Horizons

FieldPeriod in the PastPeriod in the Future
    Monthly2424

    1. On the SAP Fiori launchpad, in the Model Configuration group, choose the Planning Areas Model Configuration tile.

      Result

      The Planning Area screen appears.
    2. Choose New.

      Result

The New Planning Area screen appears.
    3. In the ID: field, enter T##, and in the Description field, enter T## Planning Area.

      Result

      The T## screen area appears.
    4. Enter the data provided in the T## Planning Area Header table.

    5. In the Planning Horizons section, enter the data provided in the Planning Horizons table.

Enter positive numbers for both periods in the past and periods in the future. The SAP IBP system does not accept negative numbers.
    6. Maintain the remainder of the settings and choose Save.

    7. On the Attributes tab, choose Add.

      Result

      The Attributes dialog box appears.
    8. In the Search bar, enter T## to filter for the master data type attributes you created.

    9. Select the checkboxes to the left of the T##CUSTOMER and T##PRODUCT master data types, and then choose Add.

      Note

Selecting the Master Data Type checkbox selects all of the attributes of the master data type. You can verify this by expanding Master Data Type: T##CUSTOMER.
