You can use the following three methods when calculating Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions based on waste.
- Average-data method: Utilizes average emission factors and quantities of waste
- Waste-type-specific method: Applies emission factors specific to waste types and treatment methods
- Spend-based method: Focuses on the amount of money spent on waste disposal methods rather than waste quantities
Regardless of the chosen method, the basic calculation remains consistent, comprising a quantity or amount and an emission factor. You can select emission factors from the lifecycle assessment (LCA) data within the system, which includes default content from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Alternatively, you can directly input the CO2e amount.
