Previously, Trent learned that the material master contains all relevant information about a material and that each department maintains their data on a specific tab or view of the material master.
The production department usually maintains the MRP, and the work scheduling views which contain plant-specific information. On the MRP view, all planning-specific information is maintained. For example, the storage location where a material ordered from a supplier should be delivered to, or typical re-order times to ensure that the material is ordered in good time before production needs it.
For semi-finished and finished materials, it is maintained whether the material is manufactured following the make-to-stock or make-to-order strategy, as discussed earlier.
On the work scheduling view, manufacturing-relevant data for semi-finished and finished materials are maintained. For example: who is responsible for overseeing the entire production process, whether the product is manufactured using batches or serial numbers, or typical production times that are relevant for the Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) run since it calculates, based on the requirement date of a finished product, when you must start production to meet the customer’s requirement date.
