Exploring the Availability Check in SAP S/4HANA

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Configure the availability check in SAP S/4HANA
  • Verify settings from check instructions and the scope of check in SAP S/4HANA

Configure the Availability Check in SAP S/4HANA

The main control parameters for the execution of an availability check are the Check Instruction and the Check Control. Both parameters will be determined during creation of the demand element (for example, customer order, stock transfer order, …) and via the settings in the material master.

The Demand Elements; Requirement Type and Requirement Class feed into Check Instructions. The Material Master; Checking Group and Check Control feed into Check Control.

The Check Instruction activates the ATP check and determines the method of the check. Meanwhile, the Check Control defines the elements which should be taken into account during an ATP-check. In addition, the checking group contains the main switch for activating the advanced ATP-check (aATP) in SAP S/4HANA.

Therefore it is necessary to focus in the first step on these two pillars.

Activating and Selecting the Check Method

Once you have decided whether availability has to be checked, you also have to decide which check method to use.

Using the ATP Check in the Sales Process

Diagram showing where the availability check can be used in the sales process. The Request item is highlighted in the Sales documents section. The request flows to the Quotation stage, then to the Order stage in the schedule line. The next stage is Outbound delivery in the Deliveries section, which then goes to the Invoice stage.

In the sales process within the SAP system, the availability check can be used in all sales documents that have the schedule line level. It can also be used in outbound deliveries. Once availability has been checked in the initial sales document, a new check may be useful at the time the delivery is created because the ATP situation may have changed in the meantime.

Deciding on the Check Method

Deciding on the Check Method. The first diagram shows ATP Check, Check against product allocations, and Check against planning. The second diagram shows Combination of ATP check with check against product allocations.

Once you have decided whether availability has to be checked, you also have to decide which check method to use.
