Explaining Prerequisites and Basic Settings for SAP S/4HANA PP/DS

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain prerequisites and basic settings for SAP S/4HANA PP/DS

Production Planning in PP/DS

The graphic outlines models and versions in PP/DS. The details are described in the text that follows.

The supply chain model in PP/DS represents the complete supply chain from the vendors to the customers through production and the distribution locations. The model is a grouping of locations, transportation lanes, products, resources, and PDS.

The master data from the SAP S/4HANA system is automatically assigned to the active model (model 000) when it is transferred to SAP PP/DS. The active model represents supply chains that the company uses. In this way, the entire transferred master data is automatically available for operational planning model 000. You must assign master data that you create manually in SAP PP/DS explicitly to the model where you need that data.

A planning version is uniquely assigned to a model and manages the transaction data for the master data of the model. However, only planning version 000 for active model 000 can exchange transaction data with the execution modules of the system.

For simulation purposes, you can create additional versions for the model. In these versions, you can change specific master data and the entire transaction data.

For example, you can increase planned independent requirements (PIRs) and plan production based on increased demand.

You can copy models and planning versions using version management or you can create them manually. However, they must be clearly marked so that no two planning versions of indifferent models have the same name. For example, active planning version 000 only exists for model 000.

Master data and transaction data have been transferred using the integration model and are available in model 000 and active planning version 000.

The master data required for planning in PP/DS is transferred from SAP S/4HANA to PP/DS. For example, you have to transfer (flag in the material master) all the materials that you want to plan in PP/DS, as well as the master data for all of their components. The data is then available in active model 000 in active planning version 000.

There exists a "Main Switch" which has to be activated for the usage of PP/DS in the customizing of SAP S/4HANA:

The Main Switch has to be activated for the usage of PP/DS in the Customizing of SAP S/4HANA.

In PP/DS, you can use number ranges (optional) to assign an internal number to orders created in PP/DS. As soon as an order is transferred to SAP S/4HANA using the internal CIF, it is assigned an order number in SAP S/4HANA based on the SAP S/4HANA number range. The SAP S/4HANA order number is then returned to PP/DS, so that the order is displayed in PP/DS with this SAP S/4HANA order number. Orders are therefore only assigned a PP/DS order number in PP/DS if they are not transferred back to SAP S/4HANA (for example, in simulated planning versions), or if they have not yet been transferred back to SAP S/4HANA (for example, if they are transferred periodically).

The Strategy Profile is defined in the global settings of the Advanced Planning and assigned to the Global Parameter and Defaults.

The Strategy Profiles are defined in the global settings of the Advanced Planning and assigned to the Global Parameter and Defaults. You use strategy profiles to control detailed scheduling (for example, Infinite Planning and planning direction backwards with reverse). You maintain strategy profiles for interactive planning, planning in the planning run and for orders transferred from SAP S/4HANA.

The categories for PP/DS are used to define the description of the receipt and issue elements in the evaluations in Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling.

Since PP/DS is already configured for SAP S/4HANA, you only have to enter categories for an execution system if it is not an SAP S/4HANA system. You maintain the categories in Customizing for the Availability Check under General Settings.

The PP planning procedure is outlined, with further details in the text that follows.

The PP planning procedure is defined in the customizing in PP/DS and assigned in the product master. It describes how a product is to be planned. For example, you can plan a product in the planning run and only write planning file entries if there are planning-relevant changes (this is the same as material requirements planning in SAP S/4HANA [MRP-live]).

You can select from several different planning procedures that must be defined in the SAP S/4HANA Customizing for Advanced Planning.

The recommended default setting is Planning in Planning Run.

You can select from several different planning procedures that must be defined in the SAP S/4HANA Customizing for Advanced Planning. These procedures define the system behavior in response to different events. A heuristic is also saved here and must be used during automatic planning.

Note

In general, it is not just products with the Planning in Planning Run setting that are planned as such: products with Manual Planning (procedure 1 and 2) are processed in the production planning run because this procedure also allows planning file entries to be created. Therefore, you can use the production planning run to plan any product that does not have a Procurement planning: external status in the product master.
A prerequisite is that the check mode in PP/DS is known.

For the planning strategies that contain a consumption of the forecast figures during sales order creation, one additional setup is very important. The consumption in SAP S/4HANA is controlled by the requirement class. For the production planning in SAP S/4HANA PP/DS, this information is also needed. The SAP S/4HANA PP/DS does not know the requirement class as a control parameter. In the former SAP/ECC solution, the requirement class was transferred to SAP/APO as a check mode, which contains an assignment mode. The check mode on his part was a control parameter of the SCM/global ATP, which is not yet (fully integrated) as S/4HANA aATP. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain all requirement classes, which are used in a PP/DS scenario and contains an assignment mode in the meantime manually in the customizing in S/4HANA PP/DS.

Note

All requirement classes of SAP S/4HANA that should be used in an PP/DS scenario and contain an assignment mode must be created with this the same technical key in the customizing of Advanced Planning. Otherwise, the consumption fails.

CAUTION: In addition, it is important to take into account that the matching of the following, selected standard requirement classes are hard-coded.

The graphic provides a recap of the hard-coded selected standard requirement classes.
