Reviewing Master Data for Advanced Planning

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain the integration of master data and transaction data

The Integration of Master Data and Transactional Data

Introduction

The graphic illustrates the mapping of SAP S/4HANA PP master data objects to the corresponding planning master data objects in PP/DS.

The PP/DS master data objects are different from those master data objects in SAP S/4HANA.

During the master data transfer, the relevant SAP S/4HANA PP master data objects are mapped to the corresponding planning master data objects in PP/DS.

The PP/DS master data for which no equivalent is present in SAP S/4HANA is created directly in PP/DS.

In the former SAP S/4HANA solution with SAP SCM, the integration was handled using the Core Interface (CIF). The integration using Core Interface (CIF) enables data to be exchanged between an ERP system. In other words, SAP R/3 , SAP R/3 Enterprise, or SAP S/4HANA, and a connected SAP SCM system. On the SAP SCM side, CIF is part of SCM Basis and can be used by all systems that contain SCM Basis.

Core Interface (CIF) is also used to integrate master data of SAP S/4HANA into PP/DS, but it is much easier to maintain.

Integration of Transactional Data

The Activate Advanced Planning and Scheduling indicator activates the features and apps under advanced planning and scheduling.

This indicator activates the features and apps under advanced planning and scheduling.

In detail, these are the following features and apps:

  • All features of advanced planning and scheduling

  • The Monitor Capacity Utilization app

  • The Production Scheduling Board app

  • The MRP app Create Optimal Orders for Shipment

The CIF and the Integration Model

The PP/DS master data objects are different from the ones used in SAP S/4HANA. During master data transfer, the relevant SAP S/4HANA PP master data objects are mapped to the corresponding planning master data objects in PP/DS. The PP/DS master data objects for which no equivalents are present in SAP S/4HANA, are created directly in PP/DS.

In the former SAP (ERP/ECC) solution in combination with SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM), the integration was handled using the Core Interface (CIF). The integration using the Core Interface (CIF) enables data to be exchanged between an ERP system (like SAP ERP/ECC) and a connected SAP SCM system. On the SAP SCM side, the CIF is part of SCM Basis, and it can be used by all systems that contain this SCM Basis.

The CIF is also used to integrate master data of SAP S/4HANA into PP/DS, but it is much easier to maintain.

An integration model is required only for locations and external procurement relationships. The Plants and Plnt fields are highlighted.

A CIF Integration Model is needed for some master data, such as location master data (plant, customer, vendor, and so on) and External Procurement Relationships like Purchasing Info Records, Contracts and Scheduling Agreements.

A corresponding transportation lane has to exist in order to transfer products between two locations in the supply chain. For example, from a production plant to a distribution center. Transportation lanes are created from CIF for this purpose in PP/DS.

You can define the material-specific information, such as the special procurement keys, for stock transfers in the material master. You can transfer special procurement keys and purchasing info records for the stock transfer between plants to the transportation lane in PP/DS as a product-specific entry. You can also transfer purchasing info records or outline agreements used to create price agreements and supply agreements with particular suppliers as external procurement relationships. Simultaneously, a product-specific entry is created in the corresponding transportation lane.

Production-Specific Master Data for Advanced Planning: Creating Products and Resources

To create products and resources, select Advanced Planning in Material and Work Center master data.

Select Advanced Planning in Material and Work Center master data in order to integrate materials to products and work centers to resources.

Work Center and Resource

The graphic illustrates how each capacity category is mapped to the requisite resources during the transfer of an SAP S/4HANA work center to PP/DS.

During the transfer of an SAP S/4HANA work center to PP/DS, each capacity category is mapped to the respective resources. One resource for each capacity category. The transfer is carried out and is recorded with the following naming convention: first, a "W" for "work center" is added to the work center number. This is followed by an underscore and the plant number from which the work center originates. Finally, another underscore and the capacity category are added.

SAP S/4HANA work center capacities are transferred as single-activity or multi-activity resources in the production category.

Production Data Structure

To integrate production data structures, use transaction CURTOADV_CREATE - PDS Transfer PDS Transfer (PP/DS add-on).

A routing and BOM are used to describe production. For this reason, BOM components can be assigned to a certain operation. You can then plan the procurement of these materials at the beginning of the particular operation.

Components are assigned in the routing. BOM components that are not explicitly assigned are considered to be assigned to the first operation.

In addition to BOM components, you can also assign production resources or tools assigned in the routing. Production resources or tools are operating facilities that are not bound to location but are necessary for production, such as a measuring instrument or a support.

You can create a Production Data Structure (PDS) in PP/DS from the SAP S/4HANA production version that determines the detailed information required for producing a product. Each PDS has one or more operations.

Each operation includes one or more activities, the components consumed by the activity and the resources are used in sequence within the operation.

To integrate production data structures, use transaction CURTOADV_CREATE - PDS Transfer PDS Transfer (PP/DS add-on).

Models and Versions in PP/DS

One version is uniquely assigned to a model and manages the transaction data for the master data of the model. However, only planning version 000 for active model 000 can exchange transaction data with the execution system.

For simulation purposes, you can create additional versions for the model. In these versions, you can change specific master data and the entire transaction data.

For example, you can increase planned independent requirements (PIRs) and plan production based on increased demand.

You can copy models and planning versions using version management, or you can create them manually. However, they must be clearly marked so that no two planning versions in different models have the same name. For example, active planning version 000 only exists for model 000.

Planning Methods

Select the Advanced Planning indicator so that the MRP Live planning run executes the maintained Product Heuristic in PP/DS

If you set the Advanced Planning indicator, the MRP Live planning run will execute the maintained Product Heuristic in PP/DS.

External Capacities

As previously described in the SAP S/4HANA solution, there is a single point for the maintenance of master data. For the maintenance of work-center an option exists. The settings for the capacity of the Work center can either be maintained in the S/4HANA system or in the embedded PP/DS. For those Work centers, the capacities in SAP S/4HANA are defined as external capacities.

The settings for the capacity of the work center can either be maintained in the S/4HANA system or in the embedded PP/DS.

Using the transaction CFC9 you can decide to use external capacities or not. In addition you define in that transaction the change process of target independent settings like:

  • Point of time for the transfer of changes (e.g materials, vendor, setup-groups)
  • Initial Data Transfer and Change Transfer of Resources (work-centers)
  • Application dependent settings.
Use the APO Resource link to maintain the PP/DS exclusive settings for work center in the SAP S/4HANA system.

Choosing the option of external capacities leads to the result that the work center capacity includes a link called APO Resource. Using this link it is possible to maintain the PP/DS exclusive settings for work center in the SAP S/4HANA system. Otherwise these settings will be maintained in the application specific master data of PP/DS.
