Production Resources and Tools, or PRTs, are required for production but are not consumed. You may need a PRT to carry out an operation, and therefore, you must assign the PRT to that operation. The PRT must be identified by a Material Master, Equipment Master, or a PRT Master. The input screen for Production Resources or Tools, with a Material Master is automatically displayed When you assign a PRT to an operation, you can change the PRT category.

SAP differentiates between the following types of PRT according to their properties and business functions. Materials that are maintained for materials management, for example, in inventory management, requirements planning, and procurement. Equipment, for example, measuring instruments or valuable tools that are serviced. Documents, for example, drawings or programs that use the document management system. miscellaneous PRTs with a PRT master record that require less maintenance in the system.
