The left section highlights Continuous Modularization and Leveraging central hubs with references to Central Finance and Intelligent Asset Accounting. The right section discusses New Capabilities for core capabilities and New Innovation integrated in the core. The bottom shows One Domain Model, Integration, Embedded XM, One Business Configuration under ABAP and Non-ABAP.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud, an intelligent ERP system, was built using advanced in-memory computing technology. It offers all essential functionalities such as finance, sales, procurement, manufacturing, and supply chain management in a single connected, cloud-based suite. But, as businesses continually evolve and digitize, the demands for a more responsive, agile, and tailored software experience have increased.

The focus now is on modularizing new products to fulfill the exact business need of a customer.

  1.  Modular Adaptability: SAP Cloud's evolution is geared towards adopting a more modularized approach. Aided by this, organizations can cherry-pick specific modules they need rather than opting for an overwhelming full-suite implementation. This flexible approach allows businesses to prioritize their needs and adapt the system to their specific business processes.
  2.  Leveraging Cloud Technology: Emphasizing the 'Cloud', the evolution looks to optimize the use of cloud-based technologies, greatly improving the accessibility and scalability of the ERP system. The all-in-cloud approach implies access to real-time data anytime, anywhere, making decision-making faster and more effective.
  3. Industry-specific solutions: Another key aspect of the evolution is the development of industry-specific solutions. Within the broader SAP S/4HANA Cloud suite, SAP is creating specialized modules tailored to address the unique needs of different industries, making the software more relevant and beneficial to businesses across various sectors.
  4.  Integration and Extensions: Leveraging the SAP Business Technology Platform, products can seamlessly integrate with other SAP and non-SAP solutions. This enhances its functionalities and allows businesses to build extensions tailored to their specific needs.

The Next Evolution of the Intelligent Enterprise: Retail and Fashion

SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) is forming the underlying technological backbone. As a platform, SAP Business Technology Platform integrates advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and database and data management into one cohesive whole. This integration provides businesses with the tools and technology required to ensure seamless data integration, orchestration, and extension across their entire enterprise.

Building upon this foundation is the Intelligent Suite. This suite contains the core software solutions synonymous with SAP, such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP C/4HANA, and so on. These solutions handle different organizational functions, including but not limited to, finance, HR, customer service, procurement, and supply chain management. They integrate seamlessly with the SAP BTP, ensuring that all business functions communicate and work in harmony.

In addition to these, we have SAP's Industry Cloud. This encompasses modular cloud solutions tailor-made for specific industries such as Retail and Fashion. It's a nimble and flexible suite of solutions targeting the unique challenges and requirements of these industries. As part of this layer, we have modules like SAP Order Management foundation, SAP Omnichannel Promotion Pricing, and SAP Omnichannel Sales Transfer & Audit. These individual modules allow for tailored solutions to unique industry needs, flexibility, and a high level of agility in response to market demand.

Lastly, at the helm of the entire process is Business Process Management. This oversees and directs the overall business processes, ensuring that everything is running smoothly and efficiently. A well-set Business Process Management contributes to a well-oiled machine, resulting in higher productivity, improved efficiency, and an ultimately better bottom line.

In summary, "The next evolution of the Intelligent Enterprise: Retail and Fashion" presents a robust and highly sophisticated architectural blend uniting SAP Business Technology Platform, the Intelligent Suite, and Industry Cloud under one efficient Business Process Management. This fusion allows businesses in the retail and fashion industry to leverage best-in-class digital tools to effectively manage and grow their enterprise while meeting the evolving needs of their customers.

SAP Order Management

SAP Industry Cloud Products

Here, we delve deeper into three pivotal SAP industry cloud products developed to cater to the complexities of order management operations in the modern business landscape: SAP Order Management foundation, SAP Order Management Sourcing and Availability, and SAP Intelligent Returns Management.

Three SAP order management solutions are displayed: 1) Foundation for flexible fulfillment (2022), 2) Sourcing and availability tool (2022), and 3) Intelligent returns management (2021/2024).
  1. SAP Order Management foundation

OMF acts as the central hub for order information and orchestration in a business. Also regarded as the "golden repository" for all orders, OMF captures orders from various sales channels and directs them for fulfillment. Through APIs, it gathers order information, routing it to appropriate fulfillment channels and reflecting updates from downstream systems. It is like an air traffic controller, guiding the flow of order information across multiple systems. An effective OMF can lead to more efficient order processing, improved customer satisfaction and, ultimately, increased sales.

  2. SAP Order Management Sourcing and Availability

Building upon the foundation laid by OMF, OMSA provides detailed, specific data concerning inventory necessary for order fulfillment. It acts as a repository for all inventory-related information and is responsible for the optimal sourcing of products for fulfilling orders. The system determines and assigns the best fulfillment source for every order, ensuring timely and efficient order processing. This feature makes OMSA ideal for businesses operating with multiple fulfillment options or those looking to optimize their existing operations.

  3. SAP Intelligent Returns Management

Currently not available due to the restructuring process.

Here, we focus on two industry cloud products from SAP's suite, tailored for modern retail operations: SAP Omnichannel Sales Transfer & Audit (OSTA) and SAP Omnichannel Promotion Pricing.

Two SAP Omnichannel products: Sales Transfer & Audit for validating sales transactions and Promotion Pricing for managing sales prices and calculating effective prices across channels. Released 2021.
  1. SAP Omnichannel Sales Transfer & Audit

This module is significant for businesses that want to optimize their in-store inventory. With the shift towards omnichannel retail, stores now serve not just as a point of sale but also as potential fulfillment centers for online orders.

OSTA is designed to give businesses real-time visibility into their store inventory, tracking sales made in the store throughout the day. This information is crucial because it helps businesses determine inventory availability accurately. If a customer orders a product online, the businesses must be sure that the product is available for shipment, even if it's being fulfilled from a store. Not only does SAP OSTA offer a solution for this, but it does so in real-time, which is critical in maintaining customer satisfaction in today's fast-paced retail environment.

  2. SAP Omnichannel Promotion Pricing

Pricing and promotions are pivotal in driving sales and customer engagement. However, in a large-scale, distributed operation, managing consistent pricing and promotions can be a challenge. If different prices appear for the same products on different platforms, it can lead to customer confusion, negative feedback, and potential loss of sales.

SAP Omnichannel Promotion Pricing provides a solution for this by being the "golden repository" for pricing and promotion. Regardless of how many sales channels a business operates or the number of promotional campaigns running simultaneously, this module ensures the consistency of prices and promotional details across all channels. It centralizes pricing and promotional data, maintaining a single source of truth to ensure that customers always get consistent information, irrespective of the channel they choose to shop in.

In summary, SAP Omnichannel Sales Transfer & Audit and SAP Omnichannel Promotion Pricing are two SAP industry cloud products designed to address modern retail's unique challenges. By focusing on real-time store inventory management and ensuring consistency in pricing and promotions, SAP allows businesses to meet and exceed customer expectations in the complex omnichannel retail landscape.

Why is Order Management Critical, and why is it Hard?

Illustration of omnichannel marketing; depicts various order sources (computers, phones, stores) and product locations (DCs, marketplaces). Emphasizes flexibility and transparency in sales.

Order management is a critical aspect in today's dynamic and high-stakes business environment. From the customer's perspective, they desire a seamless and consistent experience, whether they are shopping on a physical store, an online E-commerce platform, or through a mobile app. They expect accurate information on product availability, transparent and consistent pricing across platforms, and swift delivery options. As customers can place orders from anywhere at any time, businesses must be able to fulfill these demands effectively and efficiently.

From a business perspective, fulfilling these customer expectations often involves navigating various complexities. Products to be delivered can be sourced from various places such as warehouses, third-party logistics providers, marketplaces, or even retail stores. Tracking inventory from these various sources and ensuring accurate and timely information to the customer can certainly be challenging.

The order management process today involves more than merely processing an order. It includes end-to-end tracking from the moment that the customer places the order to when it reaches their doorstep. In addition, it must continuously update inventory status, monitor and predict demand, and operate in real-time. Failing to do any of these can lead to customer dissatisfaction, negative reviews, and lost sales.

The challenge is further complicated as businesses seek to navigate the delicate balancing act between complex operations and maintaining profitability. The rise in online shopping, customer expectations of quick deliveries, and slim margins, can make this a daunting task.

In summary, Order Management is critical as it directly impacts customer satisfaction and overall business efficiency. It also determines a business's ability to keep up with market demands while maintaining profitability. However, it is challenging due to its operational complexity, demand for real-time updates, and the pressure to execute flawlessly within thin margins.
