Creating Training Categories

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Create training types to differentiate training sessions within micro planning
  • Create training groups for specific training focuses in micro planning
  • Create absence reasons for training to analyze reasons and problem points
  • Explain how analytics can help to depict the training types and training intensity of training sessions during micro planning

Creation of Training Types

Behind the process of micro planning lies a multitude of aspects that go beyond the differentiation of training focuses and objectives. It is also about differentiating the type of training. Different subtypes of training can be defined, such as team training, individual training, group training, and rehabilitation training, where each of these types is related directly to the participating persons. In addition, special training types can also be taken into account, such as video training, home training, or workout in the gym. Another important possibility of micro planning is the subdivision of the training type according to the latest and upcoming match, for example MD+1 (used for one day after the match), MD-1 (used for one day before the match), and so on.

This subdivision makes it possible to analyze how the players' workload is before a match or after a match and whether adjustments are necessary in micro planning. In addition, the load and intensity can be better regulated, for example the training session intensity can be higher three days before the match than one day before.

Note

To be able to create training types, you need the role of administrator and the corresponding permissions. An overview of all SAP Sports One user roles is available on the SAP Help Portal (User Roles | SAP Help Portal).

If you have the required permissions, you can manage the categories for training types in SAP Sports One at Settings - Categories in the admin section.

As soon as you want to create a training type, add a description and assign it to the respective area Training Types by using the dropdown list. After you have created all training types, you will see them in the list with information about the creation time and creator.

As a best practice, we suggest the following configurations for training types in SAP Sports One.

Creation of Training Groups

In SAP Sports One, you have the possibility to create individual training groups to depict the micro planning process of training management. These groups will become important later for the detailed planning of training units because they enable you to assign individual training groups to the training units. This makes it possible to set priorities for individuals according to their micro planning focus and to differentiate, for example, between the position groups or between persons that capable of training and persons in rehab. The definition of the training groups will also be important later for regulation and load management. Here, for example, a subdivision into the group of starting players as well as substitutes and substitute players is possible.

To be able to create the training groups, you need the role of administrator and the corresponding permissions. An overview of all SAP Sports One user roles is available on the SAP Help Portal (User Roles | SAP Help Portal).

If you have the required permissions, you can manage the categories for training groups in SAP Sports One at Settings - Categories in the admin section.

The creation of training groups works the same way as the creation of the training types.

As a best practice, we suggest the following configurations for training groups in SAP Sports One.

Creation of Reasons for Training Absence

The documentation of the reason for training absence is important to create transparency within a team and club. It enables absences to be traced, supports compliance with rules, and serves to avoid misunderstandings. In addition, detailed documentation also enables statistical evaluations.

For this reason, you are able to create individual reasons for training absences in SAP Sports One. These reasons can be assigned to a non-participating player for each training session individually.

Overview of Training Types with Analytics

Many important analytical findings and insights can also be gained for the micro planning of training management. For example, team analyses can be conducted in the area of training types as well as the determination of the corresponding training intensities in order to uncover potential for improving the micro planning process. As a concrete example, we can examine how training intensity differs according to training type (MD+1, MD-1, and so on).

The following micro planning analysis shows the training plan described in the Introducing Micro Planning lesson. By analyzing the individual training sessions and the average corresponding intensity, we can see that, on the day before and the day after a match, the average intensity was relatively low. On training days that were further away from a match day, a higher average training intensity was determined for the training sessions.

This analysis can, for example, reveal problems in the players' intensity planning. This analysis could, therefore, indicate a possible overload of the players, which could lead to a drop in performance for the upcoming match and a higher risk of muscular injury.

However, the analysis described is only one example of the analysis possibilities in micro planning. Many other analytical findings about the teams can be made. On the other hand, individual insights of the players are also important in micro planning. The individual player's perspective and the analysis options will, therefore, be dealt with in the course of load management and load planning later in this unit.
