Managing Training Participants

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Update training participants to document actual participation for later analysis
  • Manage absence reasons of players for later analysis
  • Assign players to specific training groups to document the process of player working on individual training aspects
  • Explain how analytics can help to analye participation of training sessions and other training information

Training Participants Adjustment and Assessment

A crucial aspect of training management is that the coaching team always keep track of which players are participating in a training session and which are not available. This management of participants can be customized and updated for each individual training session using the Training Planner. Various options are available in SAP Sports One for this purpose.

When you are in editing mode of the Training Planner, in the Participants tab on the left-hand side, you will find the list of the players who will participate in the training session. The players who cannot attend are listed on the right-hand side. To change the participation status of a player, simply select the player and move them to the appropriate side.

It is also possible to copy complete training sessions, including the participation of the players. As a result, the participation may not match the current training day or session and may require a considerable amount of manual adjustment. This could also result in new players missing a training session and the inaccurate documentation of the participation status.

Note

How to copy a training session has already been covered in the Planning Training Management: Micro Planning unit. If you don't know how to do this, please have a look at this

To facilitate this, the Update Participants function is available at the top right. This automatically updates the training participants to reflect the team assignment at the time of the training. In addition, the status of a player is checked to see, for example whether they are injured or absent.

It often happens that external players also take part in training sessions. These external players can be added to a training session via the menu at the top left. Simply enter the name of the player and confirm the participation.

If you have finished the participant management for the training session, you are also able to evaluate the player for the training session at Assessment.

Note

The rating scale used for this evaluation type was created and assigned in the Agreeing on Targets at Season Start unit. Please have a look at this unit, if not already done so.

Absence Reason for Players not Participating

It is important not only to record whether a player attends the training session, but also to document the reason for any absence. This can include various factors, such as their current health condition, personal reasons, or participation in training sessions with another team. These records not only provide a transparent overview, but also contribute to a more comprehensive analysis of the reasons for absence in future assessments.

To record a player's absence status in the Training Planner, use the absence reasons previously created in the SAP Sports One system. These settings are displayed and applied on the right-hand side of the Training Planner.

Note

How to create the absence reasons for training sessions is covered in the Planning Training Management: Micro Planning unit . If you don't know how to do this, please have a look at this.

Please also note that injured or sick players are already marked with the appropriate identification.

Assignment of Players to Training Groups

The training management process of a club focuses on enabling targeted training for specific training objectives and promoting individualized training. These aspects were already taken into account during the micro planning process and the importance of defining individual training groups to ensure effective training was explained.

Note

How to create training groups has already been covered in the Planning Training Management: Micro Planning unit. If you don't know how to do this, please have a look at this.

In SAP Sports One, you can assign players to training groups within the Training Planner. Subsequently, specific training exercises can be added to distinct groups, such as goalkeepers, field players, or the rehabilitation group. This facilitates the establishment of focused training objectives and content.

To achieve this, simply select the players on the left-hand side and choose the respective group under the Assign To Group option, then confirm your selection. Players within the designated group will be labeled accordingly, enhancing their visibility and recognition.

Training Participant Management with Analytics

In the area of analytics, there are also numerous possibilities for analyzing player participation in training sessions. For example, it is possible to analyze how often a particular player has participated in training sessions and what rate corresponds to their participation over a set period of time. In addition, the main reasons why a player could not attend a training session can be identified.

An illustrative example of such an analysis is shown in the following graph.
