Describing User Experience and Productivity with SAP SSO

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe how SAP SSO improves the user experience and productivity.

User Experience and Productivity with SAP SSO

In a default SAP setup, users enter their SAP username and password on the SAP GUI or Fiori logon screen. If you rely on passwords to secure access to sensitive business data, you are putting your employees in charge of guarding access to this data. They have to remember many different passwords for your business applications.

A person facing password overload requests help, connecting to various solutions including Cloud, SAP, and Non-SAP within the enterprise boundary, and Internet Services.

While some consider this scenario simply an inconvenience for your employees, it is, in fact, a high risk. To reduce password-related risk in your organization, the number of passwords employees must remember must be reduced, a firm password policy must be enforced, and possibly passwords must be replaced with security tokens for accessing susceptible applications. A solution for secure password storage must also be provided.

Users can access multiple systems, including SAP and non SAP systems. Some systems reside in a dedicated network zone in the intranet, but many reside on different networks or the internet. Users must have different IDs and passwords to access these systems. Each system also enforces its own password policy.

For example, in the SAP HR system, the user must change their password every 30 days. In another system, users might change their password every 90 days. In another system, the user might only need to change their password occasionally. As a result, users often must remember their passwords, meaning the administrator must constantly reset passwords.

A user interacting successfully with various solutions, including Cloud Solutions (SAP Ariba, Fieldglass, SuccessFactors, Customer Experience, BTP, S/4HANA Cloud) and Internet Services.

SAP Single Sign-On (SSO) can help overcome these issues. SAP NetWeaver SSO solves three significant challenges companies are faced with today:

  • Employees must only authenticate once to access multiple SAP and non SAP applications securely.
  • SSO helps you meet your policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • It improves security in your organization and protects your assets.

SSO provides simple and secure access, including a host of available features, including support for:

  • Web and mobile SSO
  • SSO for native SAP clients
  • Supports Cloud and On-Premise landscapes
