SAP S/4HANA Business User and Authorization Concept

Business Scenario

Our new SAP user administrator, Mina, has received a support ticket requesting that he make new group and role assignments for the existing user, Mr. John Smith. Before we look at the user maintenance process and tool, let's explore the SAP S/4HANA authorization concept and basic terminology.

SAP S/4HANA Business User and Authorization Concept in Detail

In SAP S/4HANA, SAP introduced a new identity model for SAP applications. This new identity model centers around the business user. With the business user concept, SAP integrated several user/identity data sources into a unified data model and simplified the administration and maintenance of certain key user data.

Watch the following video to explore the business user and the authorization concept of SAP S/4HANA.

User Administration in SAP S/4HANA

In SAP S/4HANA, the SAP user administrator's primary responsibility is the management of business user access. This responsibility involves the creation and maintenance of user master records, and the administration of the business and technical users in the system. The user maintenance transaction SU01 is used to create and maintain user master records, and supports many general administrative activities, including password resets, locking and unlocking users, and role and profile assignment.

In the following exercise, you will maintain a business user and explore the administration of their user master record.
