Describing Deployment Options and Landscapes

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe deployment options and landscapes

Deployment Options and Landscapes

The SAP Master Data Governance product portfolio provides various flexible deployment options to support given business needs and system landscapes. The figure SAP Master Data Governance Sample Deployments explains two ways of deploying SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA.

This graphic explains two ways of deploying SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA, namely Hub and Co-Deployment.

Hub Deployment

Master Data Governance can be deployed as a hub system. Here, master data from one or more systems is fed into the solution for verification before being replicated to the source and other systems. This deployment option can either use SAP S/4HANA database technology or not depending upon the business system landscape.

Advantages

  • Fresh start with cleansed data
  • Not tied to other system maintenance cycles
  • No additional load on existing systems
  • Higher flexibility with mapping
  • Increased flexibility for master data lifecycle management

Co-Deployment

Master Data Governance can be co-deployed on several local SAP S/4HANA systems or on a single SAP S/4HANA system and reused across the landscape for central governance.

Advantages

  • No latency for data replication and no cross-system monitoring
  • No system integration, implementation, and monitoring for replication is required
  • No additional integration and additional external services

SAP Master Data Governance in the Context of SAP S/4HANA

The SAP Master Data Governance road map is fully aligned with the SAP S/4HANA road map.

The following figure shows the possibility to distribute or consolidate master data across all systems: SAP Business Suite systems, SAP S/4HANA systems, and other SAP and non-SAP systems.

This graphic shows the possibility to distribute or consolidate master data across all systems: SAP Business Suite systems, SAP S/4HANA systems, other SAP and non SAP systems.

Integration with SAP S/4HANA Is Available

  • SAP S/4HANA can be a distribution target for SAP Master Data Governance

  • Central Finance can leverage master data governance’s centralized master data and key mapping for aligned postings

  • SAP Master Data Governance can be co-deployed on SAP S/4HANA On-Premise

Introducing Cloud-Ready Mode

SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA offers the following two different modes:

  • Classic mode in SAP Master Data Governance
  • Cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance

Classic Mode in SAP Master Data Governance

Classic mode has been the standard delivery option in SAP S/4HANA for multiple years and is an alternative to cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance.

It offers a wide range of features, including apps for data quality management, consolidation, and central governance for master data domains, such as business partner, product, various financial domains, and the possibility to define custom domains.

Cloud-Ready Mode in SAP Master Data Governance

Cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance is an alternative to classic mode that enables users to adapt SAP Master Data Governance to configure and extend processes and applications. All user interfaces are based on SAP Fiori, which allows customers to navigate seamlessly, for example, between the mass processing user interface in consolidation and the single-object processing user interface, and adapt the user interface easily (key user adaptation).

Note

Cloud-ready mode is available for the business partner domain with SAP S/4HANA 2023. Further domains are planned for future releases. For more information, see SAP Road Map Explorer.

The figure below shows the system view of creating a new business partner.

The table below lists the availability of cloud-ready and classic mode for Business Partner domain for the different MDG versions.

MDG versionYearCloud-ready vs. Classic

SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public editionPlanned for after 2024Target: Only cloud-ready mode

Cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance can be summarized as follows:

  • It's an additional option to configure and extend processes and applications in SAP Master Data Governance
  • It comes with SAP Master Data Governance, cloud edition (starting with 2021) and is now available in SAP S/4HANA 2023
  • It is available in public or private cloud as well as On-Premise

Cloud-ready mode is available on the following platforms:

  • SAP Business Technology Platform: today and once SAP opens SAP Master Data Governance, cloud edition for Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition and On-Premise: Business Partner domain for SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA 2023
  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition: Business Partner domain planned according to SAP Road Map Explorer

The figure Cloud-Ready Mode shows the configuration of the optional cloud-ready mode.

This graphic shows the configuration of the optional cloud-ready mode.

Customers can optionally activate the cloud-ready mode in their existing SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA systems for the Business Partner (from release 2023 onwards).

Cloud-ready mode in SAP Master Data Governance is based on a single framework, which ensures consistent configuration of consolidation, central governance, and data quality management. Currently, cloud-ready mode only supports the business partner domain. Most of the customizing settings are common for both classic and cloud-ready mode, but there are some additional settings for the cloud-ready mode.

Once you have switched on the cloud-ready mode, new apps in the newest SAP Fiori design are available for central governance (single and mass processing), consolidation, and data quality management, which are already part of the common framework. Classic mode, central governance, and cloud-ready mode can coexist, which is typical for a transition phase.

If you use the Cloud-ready mode, the following features are available:
  • Federated master data governance
  • Data provider integration
  • Attachments for all processes
  • Process visualization (across systems)

Additionally, you can also integrate pre-configured cloud services, for example, SAP Build Process Automation to define and visualize workflows, SAP Document Management service to add attachments to processes, and SAP Data Quality Management microservices for location data to validate and enrich addresses.
