Explaining the Configuration Tools

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Explain the purpose of the primary and secondary configuration tools.
  • Identify which roles are required to use the configuration tools.

Introduction

In this unit, you will learn about the configuration tools available in Concur Request. These tools are commonly grouped into two categories: primary configuration tools and secondary configuration tools. You will learn which tools fall into which category and the most efficient way to use those tools. You will also learn about the Request Configuration Relationship Diagram (CRD) and how it shows the way different configurations are linked together.

After completing this training, you will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of the primary and secondary configuration tools.
  • Identify which roles are required to use the configuration tools.
  • Describe the Request Configuration Relationship Diagram (CRD).
  • List the order of configuration for Concur Request.
  • Identify the order of configuration for Concur Request.

Configuration Tools Synopsis

Configuration tools are used to modify how the system behaves so it best fulfills business requirements. There are a number of different tools available and SAP Concur has grouped those tools into two categories: primary configuration tools and secondary configuration tools.

Configuration Tools Overview

Primary Configuration Tools

Primary configuration tools are used to create configurations that are required for the system to function correctly.

The primary configuration tools are List Management, Forms and Fields, Feature Hierarchies, Workflows, Request Policies, and Request Groups.

Note

Please note that not all tools are accessible without full unrestricted access. Full unrestricted access for customers can only be granted by SAP Concur, not a customer administrator. Customers can only obtain this permission by successfully completing the Concur Request Advanced Configuration training. Please visit the Advanced Configuration Training page to learn more.

Secondary Configuration Tools

Secondary configuration tools are all of the other tools used to configure Concur Request. These tools are used to configure the items that are considered optional to the proper function of the service. They are items that are nice to have but not required for the system to work.

The full list is too numerous to mention here, but the more commonly used secondary configuration tools are Audit Rules and Exceptions, Segment Types, Email Reminders, and Site Settings.

Expense Configuration Tools

Some configurations used by Concur Request are configured within the Concur Expense configuration tools. Access to both Concur Expense and Concur Request is required to properly configured Concur Request.

These items include Attendees, Expense Types, and Group Configurations.

Tools that are solely used for the integration of Concur Request to Concur Travel are not be covered.

Required Permissions

Access to the configuration tools is granted by specific permissions. Permissions are assigned to users through the Permission Administrator tool.

Request Configuration Administrator

This permission grants the user full access to configure a Concur Request site. This permission can only be granted by SAP Concur, not a customer administrator. Customers can only obtain this permission by successfully completing the Concur Request Advanced Configuration training.

Request Configuration Administrator (restricted)

This permission grants the user limited access to configure a Concur Request site. The access is limited to those items that SAP Concur considers to be low risk if an untrained user changes them. This role can be granted by a customer administrator.

Shared Configuration Administrator

Some configuration items are shared between multiple SAP Concur services. Items such as List Management and Localization are good examples of shared configurations.

This permission grants the user full access to shared items in a SAP Concur site. This permission can only be granted by SAP Concur, not a customer administrator. Customers can only obtain this permission by successfully completing the Concur Request Advanced Configuration training.
