Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to get a free account on SAP Business Technology Platform, prepare the ABAP environment on SAP Business Technology Platform, download Eclipse IDE, add ADT plug-in to Eclipse, connect ADT to your trial account on SAP BTP ABAP environment

Set Up Development Environment

In this course, you will use the ABAP environment on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). SAP Business Technology Platform is a platform that brings together data and analytics, artificial intelligence, application development, automation, and integration. This exercise will help you in setting up different trial accounts for you to use in the future activities of this course.

Using the ABAP environment on SAP BTP, you will be able to work on the most recent features and improvements of the ABAP platform that gives you access to the latest features and improvements.

Prerequisites

You must complete the following steps before continuing with the rest of the course.

Steps

  1. Create your free trial account on SAP BTP by following the steps described in the tutorial Get a Free Account on SAP BTP Trial.

  2. Prepare your SAP BTP account for ABAP trial by following the steps described in this tutorial Create an SAP BTP ABAP Environment Trial User. Download the generated service key for later use as described in Step 4.

    Note that the trial environment is available for a limited period of time and for educational purposes only. Trial users share an instance of the same back-end system and there's no content separation between different users.

  3. Download the Eclipse IDE and add the ABAP Development Tools (ADT) to Eclipse by following the steps described in the tutorial Download the Eclipse IDE and add the ABAP Development Tools (ADT) Plug-in

  4. Create an ABAP cloud project by connecting your ABAP Development Tools (ADT) to SAP BTP ABAP environment by following the steps described in the tutorial Create an ABAP Cloud Project

Result

You have successfully created a trial account on SAP BTP, and prepare it for ABAP trial. You have downloaded the Eclipse IDE and added the ABAP Development Tools (ADT) plug-in to it. As the last step, you have created an ABAP cloud project in ADT by connecting your ADT to SAP BTP ABAP environment using the generated service key.
