Using the Staging DataStore Object

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to use the Staging DataStore Object

Staging DataStore Objects

Use of the Staging DataStore Object

The Staging DataStore object can be used in different ways. An example would be using a Staging DataStore Object with fields to serve as Corporate Memory in SAP BW/4HANA. The Staging DataStore object can be used in Data Flows to feed other targets like Standard DataStore Objects and Data Mart DataStore Objects.

Let's have a look at the usage of the tables that belong to the Staging DataStore Object (Inbound Queue Only).

When you use a Staging DataStore Object with setting Inbound Queue Only, all loaded data arrives in the inbound queue request by request. The Inbound Table can store all versions of a data record identified by a technical key. This reflects the data as it is stored in the source system.

In the scenario on the picture above, the Inbound Table stores all versions of order number 4711. The first record is stored, with Material M-01 and Quantity 100, but also the two changes afterward are stored. The first change was related to the Quantity, the second change to the Material and the Quantity.

Scenario

In our scenario we do not use a Staging DataStore Object. We could have used it, for example, to store the acquired data in SAP BW/4HANA without any transformation. In this way SAP BW/4HANA keeps a copy of the source data, even if the data is removed from the source system.
