Configuring Rules

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to analyze the purpose and key components of configuring rules.

Introduction

You will learn how to use the "Configure Rules" application in the SAP Cell and Gene Therapy Orchestration solution. This application allows you to define rules that trigger workflows based on changes to entities. You will cover creating new rules, activating and deactivating them, and understand their default active status.

Rules

In the SAP Cell and Gene Therapy Orchestration solution, this application can be found under the Configuration tab or use Configure Rules in the open search section to access it. This app helps you to define certain rules that trigger the workflow against any changes in the entity.

The image shows the SAP application menu, with the Configuration tab selected. Under the Configuration tab, the Configure Rules option is highlighted.

Configuring Rules

Click on Create as pointed out in the figure above on how to create a new entry.

The Configuration consists of the following:

  • Entity - represents the business function where to apply the rule, an entry can be chosen from the dropdown.
  • Scenario - represents the scenario where to apply the rule, an entry can be chosen from the dropdown.
  • Rule provider - suggests whether the configured rule applies for a workflow(WF) or business rule(BR).
  • Rule provider ID - this is required to initiate the workflow.

The main section of the screen displays a form for creating a new rule, with fields for entering the entity, scenario, rule provider, and rule provider ID. The right side of the screen shows a timeline graph.

Activation and Deactivation

When a new rule is saved, the status is set to Active by default. At any point in time, the rule can be deactivated by providing the right Deactivation Reason, some optional comments, and reviewing the Where used list. In the same way, deactivated entries can be activated by providing the right Activation Reason.
