Discovering Deployment Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to illustrate the creation and assignment of deployment plans.

Deployment Management

The figure shows screenshots, illustrating, at which places the newly introduced terms System, System Group and Release display.

The figure highlights the following definitions:

System
Tenant used for a product line and maintained under landscape management.
System Group
Collection of systems belonging to one product line for example SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
Release
  • Common time box across projects to drive a deployment schedule to production.
  • Same release can be used across multiple projects.
Deployment Plan
  • Collection of system groups and release timelines.
  • Same deployment plan applicable for multiple projects.
Figure, showing the Transport tab and its content.

Explanations:

Change Enablement
  • Feature used for guided implementation of changes via workflow, approval and change history.
  • Collect different transport containers for various software components.
Deployment orchestration
  • Synchronous deployment of multiple features by release timebox.
  • Consistent deployment ensured by underlying landscape information and assignment of Deployment Plan to project

Change Control implies to be more strict (ChaRM, Focused Build) versus Change Enablement implies to be more flexible (SAP Cloud ALM).

Focus of SAP Cloud ALM on agility with incremental enhancements and continuous feature delivery based on deployment on demand.

Adaptation Transport Organizer (ATO)

Chart, illustrating the integration of the deployment. SAP Cloud ALM utilizes the CTS to integrate with on-Premise landscapes, with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, with SAP S/4HANA Cloud and many more.

You have to establish a connection between SAP Cloud ALM and the Change and Transport System (CTS) to orchestrate the deployment of transport requests through your implementation landscape.

SAP Cloud ALM supports the integration of Change and Transport System (CTS) for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, and SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP on-premise.

You have to establish a connection between SAP Cloud ALM and the Adaptation Transport Organizer (ATO) to orchestrate the deployment of transport requests through your implementation landscape.

SAP Cloud ALM supports the integration of Adaptation Transport Organizer (ATO) for SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Public Cloud

To use the transport capabilities of SAP Cloud ALM in conjunction with the SAP Cloud Transport Management service (CTMS), you first have to establish a connection between them.

SAP Cloud ALM supports the integration of SAP Cloud Transport Management service (CTMS) for SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) - Cloud-Foundry-Environment, SAP BTP - Neo environment , SAP Integration Suite (Cloud integration; API Management).

Exercises in the Unit: Discovering Deployment Management

Flowchart of all steps of the exercises, the steps, which are processed in the next exercise, are highlighted.

The figure illustrates all steps, performed in the exercises of this training.

Deployment to production is marked but technical prerequisites are created in the exercises.

In the exercises of this Unit, you will perform the following steps:

  • Create Deployment Plan:
    • Create new deployment plan.
    • Add mandatory general information including the needed releases.
    • Assign system groups.
  • Assign Deployment Plan:
    • Select project.
    • Edit deployment landscape to assign the deployment plan.

Create a Deployment Plan

Business Scenario

As a Project Lead, you are asked to create a Deployment Plan to set up a timeframe for your project.

Task Flow

In this exercise, you will perform the following steps:

  • Create a Deployment Plan.
  • Determine Releases.
  • Assign a System Group.
