Using Analytics and Reporting

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to illustrate the usage of analytics and reporting.

Analytics and Reporting

In this lesson, the general out-of-the-box capabilities of Cloud ALM for Reporting and Analytics are discussed. Therefore, two overview apps are available:

  • The Project Overview.
  • The Analytics Overview.

The Project Overview

The overview page provides a high-level overview of progress in different areas. It acts like a health check monitor for project and at the same time it provides connectivity to other applications for a faster drill down. Each card on overview page represent a specific topic and displays set of relevant information

You get an overview of your scenarios, processes, tasks, and test cases. You can use the quick links to navigate to relevant applications and related information.

In the Overview app, you can get an overview of scenarios, processes, tasks, and test cases for your projects, navigate to other apps, and view important KPIs.

In detail, the following options are available:

  • View important KPIs for your projects.
  • Navigate to other apps.
  • Navigate to prefiltered lists in other apps.
  • Get an overview of your project.
Illustration of the Project Overview app, and how it displays in the system.

The figure illustrates the Project Overview page and a detailed Analytical page.

The Overview Page provides:
  • Birds eye view of current situation.
  • High level tracking and monitoring of different objects.
  • Overview of scenarios, processes, tasks, and test cases.
  • Quick links to navigate to relevant applications and related information.
  • Focused on what you need to act on.
Detailed Analytical Pages
  • Deeper drill down capability.
  • Transparency, traceability, and retrospectives.
  • Historical reporting: Trends and patterns.

The Analytics Overview

The second app is the Analytics Overview app.

The Analytics Overview is a container for detailed analytical standalone pages, which help you with a deeper drill down into complex details. Here you will find ready to use progress reports, historical charts, and traceability matrices.

The app provides:

  • Overview of scenarios, processes, tasks, and test cases.
  • Quick links to navigate to relevant applications and related information.
Flowchart, illustrating the availability of multiple options to cover the reporting needs in a solution process.

SAP Cloud ALM for Implementation offers multiple options to cover diverse monitoring and reporting needs of different roles and team members. The integrated analytics functionality arches over project management, task management, process management, change and deploy management, and test management applications. Each application sends change events to the Analytical framework, which processes those events and turns them into meaningful information and insights in the form of dashboards and reports.

Analytics and Reporting: Detailed Analytics

Project Progress Reporting
  • Provides summarized reports about the project progress by phases or deliverables in terms of completed and remaining tasks.
  • For sprints, you can view the project progress in terms of tasks or story points.
  • Outlines total planned tasks, completed tasks and remaining tasks as well as phase wise distribution.
  • Visualize progress in form of burn down chart or tabular data.
Task & Requirement Distribution
  • Distributions analysis allows you to monitor project progress filtered by different assignments.
  • This diversification can be further used to identify gaps or impediments within highlighted areas.
  • You can monitor distribution of tasks and requirements by:
    • Scopes
    • Teams
    • Responsible Person
    • Workstreams
Traceability Analysis
  • Traceability Analysis empowers you to assess readiness of your Solution Processes, Requirements, Features, and User stories.
  • Readiness of an implementation object is dependent on the progress of related objects.
Test Reporting
  • Monitoring the execution status of manual and automated test cases and their corresponding defects is crucial for completion of your test event in time.
  • Further drill-down capabilities help test managers as well as testers to check on progress of individual test cases and defect resolution status.

Exercises in the Unit: Using Analytics and Reporting

Flowchart of all steps of the exercises, the steps, which are processed in the next exercise, are highlighted.

The figure illustrates all steps, performed in the exercises of this training.

In the exercises of this Unit, you will perform the following steps:

  • Perform Project Progress Reporting: View summarized reports about project progress by phases or sprints in terms of completed and remaining tasks.
  • Perform Requirements Distribution: Track the progress of requirements using selected dimensions.
  • Perform a Task Trend Analysis: Monitor the task trends based on status over a period of time.
  • Perform Feature Traceability: Analyze readiness of features based on the status of related user stories and project tasks.

Perform Project Progress Reporting

Business Scenario

In your role as PMO consultant, you are asked to provide a burn down chart to visualize the project progress in the realize phase of the Simplify-REP project. The Project Manager is interested in deviation of planned and actual remaining tasks in Story Points.

Task Flow

Follow these steps:

  • Use the Project Progress Reporting tile in the Analytics Overview.
  • Provide a Burn Down Chart of project only tasks and their distribution across the Simplify-REP project phases.
  • Determine the deviation between Planned Total Remaining Tasks and the Actual Total Remaining Tasks within the Realize phase for all task types.
  • Deliver a graphical overview of sprint progress by planned and completed story points. Therefore, use the Sprint tab in the same tile.

Exercise Information

Note

In this exercise, when the values include ## or XX, replace the character with a two-digit number (01–30).

Exercise Options

Perform the exercise by entering the requested values in the fields of the simulation below.

Note

All text input fields can be confirmed by choosing the Tab or Enter key or by leaving the text box.

Perform Requirements Distribution

Business Scenario

In your role as PMO consultant, you are asked to provide a chart to visualize the progress of requirements of the Simplify-REP project. The Project Manager is interested in remaining requirements.

Task Flow

Follow these steps:

  • Deliver a graphical comparison of requirements assigned to:
    • Team PROC Team-REP and
    • Team CO Team-REP.
  • In the statuses In Approval, In Realization, and Blocked of project Simplify-REP.
