Let's review the predefined generation rules in EMS. Under the Configuration Overview page, scroll down to the Maintain Entitlement Generation Rules section and select the Generation Rule button. There are different methods that can be utilized in managing and creating entitlements. Let's compare them. The first in the list is Direct Creation. This generation rule involves manually creating entitlements for each product or service as needed. This method gives you complete control of each entitlement and its items. The disadvantage is that it can be time consuming if there are numerous entitlements to manage. Let's jump to Query for Existence Before Creation. This generation rule first checks if a particular entitlement exists before creating a new one. The primary goal is to avoid data duplication. If no entitlement is found, the system will create a new one. If an entitlement is found, system will update the existing entitlement. This process helps in reducing unnecessary data duplication, making your database more organized and management friendly. Query and Update Original Record is a generation rule that searches for existing entitlements and updates them. If no entitlement is found, an error message will display. This process is used when you wish to update the properties of an existing entitlement without creating a new one. Update Existing Entitlement and Create New is a generation rule that efficiently manages entitlements while preventing duplication and maintaining relevance. The system checks for an existing entitlement and will display an error if none are found. If an entitlement is found, it will be updated. At this point, the system checks for a child entitlement. If one exists, an error a message will display. If one is not found, a new entitlement with a child relationship is created. Check Before Create Entitlement and Relationship Process is a generation rule that confirms whether a particular entitlement exists before creating a new one. If an entitlement is found, the system will create a new child entitlement with a relationship to the parent entitlement. If no entitlement is found, the system determines to either display an error or create an entitlement separate from the parent without any relationship. The relationship process refers to creating relationships between entitlements where one entitlement is defined as a parent and the other as a child or follow-up. This relationship causes the parent entitlement to affect or influence the details and rules of the child entitlement. Execute Customized Logic After Query is a more advanced generation rule that requires customizing the behavior of the system based on a business logic created through scripting. This generation rule helps the customer check multiple entitlements in the system and then combine the query result to assign the mapped entitlement to a script task. This process allows for a high level of customization, enabling businesses to tailor their entitlement management to fit specific requirements. It requires a firm understanding of both the business needs and how to implement them effectively within the system, often requiring input from a developer  or someone familiar with SAP scripts and system design.
