Deploying SAP Best Practices for a New Implementation

The tool for deploying SAP Best Practices in an SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud or on premise system is the SAP Best Practices Solution Builder, which can be executed from transaction /n/SMB/BBI. The focus of the Solution Builder is on solutions. A solution contains a set of SAP Best Practices scenarios, which are predefined process flows for a particular line of business or business area. The documentation for these business processes is located in SAP Signavio Process Navigator. Scenarios consist of one or more building blocks, which are self-contained and reusable entities that include customizing settings and/or master data steps.

SAP Best Practices content is deployed via SAP Solution Builder using the SAP GUI.

SAP Best Practice business processes are only activated once in the development system. Transports are used to provide the quality and production systems with the business configuration defined in the development system.

When customizing SAP Best Practice business processes to a customer's requirements, do not edit the process directly. Instead, make a copy of the process and edit the copy. Processes that have been directly changed do not receive enhancements when an upgrade is installed, however if you maintain the original process as-is, the process will receive the upgrade enhancements. Customer's specific documentation about entirely custom business processes can be maintained in SAP Signavio Process Manager. Customers receive a limited license to use SAP Signavio Process Manager for the purpose of documenting entirely custom business processes, or to document SAP Best Practice business processes that have been customized to the point the process flow is different than what is visible in the SAP Signavio Process Navigator website.

After the initial content is activated, the partner line of business configuration (LoB) experts can begin entering configuration values for their LoB areas in the customizing tenant of the development system. You generate SAP S/4HANA configuration information in the SAP GUI for each level in the configuration hierarchy (i.e. for activities, folders, Building Blocks, scope items, or for the whole solution). A report generates a document containing information about the selected entity with the corresponding Customizing objects and sub objects, transaction codes and paths in the IMG (incl. IMG documentation if available), and the content (installation data) to be maintained. Configuration information specific to each LoB is covered in dedicated training courses for the different LoB areas.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition Standard Services (included in contract)

For a new implementation, SAP will execute the following technical tasks based on the customer's requirements:

  • Implement SAP Best Practices and similar packages
    • Initial scoping of the business processes occurred in the Discover Phase with the Digital Discovery Assessment. These processes would have then been validated during Fit-to-Standard workshops. Using this information, the customer/partner informs SAP of the best practices they want activated during the initial system provisioning.
    • Implementation of SAP Best Practices includes activation of required business functions in client 000, provisioning of a client with the desired client setup alternative, and Best Practice business process activation in the system. Note that some business processes may require additional licenses.
  • Install a preconfigured system from an SAP-delivered template solution in a cloud skeleton system
    • This service must be requested during the initial system provisioning in the Prepare phase.
