Deploying a Sandbox System

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify a system to deploy from the SAP Cloud Appliance Library

Sandbox System Deployment

SAP S/4HANA Preconfigured Trial, Scoping, or Sandbox System

The SAP Cloud Appliance Library (CAL) enables you to deploy a fully-configured SAP S/4HANA (on premise) system that can be used for exploration as a Trial System, or a Scoping/Sandbox System used as a tool by partner line of business (LoB) configuration experts to deliver Fit-to-Standard workshops that occur in the Explore phase of the SAP Activate Methodology. There are also systems available to help implementation teams prepare for system conversion. These systems can be deployed in 2-3 hours through the CAL website with one of our hosting partners, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services. While there isn't a cost for the SAP S/4HANA Fully Activated Appliance system from SAP for 30 days (free trial), there will be a cost from the third party provider that hosts the system, which is approximately 3 euros per hour. After 30 days, there will also be a cost from SAP to continue using the software.

The systems relevant for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition include:

  • SAP S/4HANA [latest release], Fully-Activated Appliance
  • Enterprise Management Layer for SAP S/4HANA [latest release]
  • System Conversion to SAP S/4HANA - Part 1 Preparation
  • System Conversion to SAP S/4HANA - Part 2 Technical Conversion
  • System Conversion to SAP S/4HANA - Part 3 Post Conversion Activities

Because SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition is the SAP S/4HANA (on premise) software hosted in SAP's private managed cloud, SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC), the functional scope is the same for both SAP S/4HANA and SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition. The systems in CAL with "SAP S/4HANA" in the title can also be used for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition implementation activities. Difference between SAP S/4HANA Fully-Activated Appliance and the Enterprise Management Layer

So, what's the difference between the SAP S/4HANA Fully Activated Appliance and the Enterprise Management Layer for SAP S/4HANA?

The screenshots show the SAP S/4HANA 2023, Fully-Activated Appliance screen, the Enterprise Management Layer for SAP S/4HANA 2023, FPS00 screen, along with the SAP Best Practices for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition screen, and the Enterprise Management Layer for SAP S/4HANA screen.

An appliance is a compressed system image that can be rapidly extracted into a regular system instance, while preserving everything that was configured for the appliance when it was developed. The SAP S/4HANA Fully-Activated Appliance is a prepackaged bundle with SAP standard business processes activated for core SAP S/4HANA functions and additional scenarios for Service, Master Data Governance (MDG), Transportation Management, Portfolio Management, HCM, Analytics, and more. There is an extensive library of prebuilt demo scenarios with sample data sets. The SAP S/4HANA Fully-Activated Appliance aligns with the SAP Best Practices for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition.

The Enterprise Management Layer (EML) is the successor of the Model Company for Multinational Corporations and is best for customers with an international footprint that need to adhere to multiple financial reporting and accounting requirements. EML is delivered with a pre-configured, localized core template based on standard SAP business processes covering 43 local versions and 25 system languages. It has a group ledger representing the leading ledger for the corporation and every country has 4 additional parallel ledgers pre-defined to account for the representation of local accounting principles and deviating fiscal year variants. The Enterprise Management Layer system aligns with the SAP Best Practice business processes documented in the Enterprise Management Layer for SAP S/4HANA.
