You prepare the VS Code environment for Mobile Development Kit development.

Task 1: Install MS Visual Studio Code and Android Studio

Steps

  1. Download the MS Visual Studio Code from https://code.visualstudio.com/download.

  2. Install and set up Android Studio, then create a virtual device.

    1. Download the Android Studio from https://developer.android.com/studio.
    2. Install the Android Studio.

      Note

      Setup your Environment Variable ANDRIOD_HOME to location where the SDK in installed. This may not be same as your installation directory.

      Note

      The following are the prerequisite version levels:
      1. Android SDK Platform API Version = 28
      2. Android SDK Platform-Tools Version >= 28.0.1
      3. Android SDK Tools Required Version >= 26.1.1
      4. Android SDK Build-Tools 28 Required Version >= 28.0.3 && <= 28.0.99
      5. Android Emulator Required Version >= 27.3.8
    3. Once you complete the Android Studio installation, create a virtual device. For the training, choose tablet screen size 10. Ensure you allocate enough memory for the virtual device.

Task 2: Verify the Installation and Prerequisite Configuration

Steps

  1. Verify the prerequisites by running the Dependency Check.

    1. Use the Dependency Check tool.

      The tool is part of the MDK Client.

      1. Use the MDK dependencies Installer.app for MAC iOS.
      2. Use the MDKDependenciesInstallerWindows.zip for Windows

    2. Fix any dependency issues.

      Hint

      The dependency provides an option to install the Node.js and the Native Scripts.
      A success message confirms that the environment is ready for MDK development.
