Explaining the SAP Cloud Connector

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain the function of the SAP Cloud Connector

SAP Cloud Connector

SAP Cloud Connector is a connector developed and supported by SAP. It is designed to allow the establishment of a secure communication link between customer’s on-premise network, to SAP Business Technology Platform or SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

SAP Cloud Connector runs as an on-premise agent in a secure network. It acts as a reverse invoke proxy between the on-premise network and SAP Business Technology Platform or SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Main Advantages

Compared to the approach of opening ports in the firewall and using reverse proxies in the DMZ to establish access to on-premise systems from SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Cloud Connectors offers many benefits:

  • Provides find-grained control over on-premise systems and resources that can be accessed by cloud applications in SAP Business Technology Platform, including the use of virtual host and port to protect on-premise host name. No need to change on-premise firewall settings.

  • Recovers broken connections automatically.

  • Provides audit logging of inbound traffic and configuration changes.

  • Runs in a high availability setup. Multiple SAP Cloud Connectors can be linked to the same SAP Business Technology Platform subaccount.

  • Supports HTTP and other protocols such as RFC protocol for remote function module call in ABAP systems.

  • Support propagation of cloud user identity to on-premise systems in a secure way.

  • Low TCO with easy installation and configuration.
