Elements and Components of Integration between SAP S/4HANA and SAP SuccessFactors

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central integrated with SAP S/4HANA can be deployed as a side-by-side, core hybrid, or full cloud solution.
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central will be referred to as Employee Central in this training and may also be abbreviated to EC.

Side-by-Side HCM

You use Employee Central as the cloud-based core HR system for a subset of employees. SAP S∕4HANA is retained as the core HR system for another subset of employees. If you use this deployment option, Employee Central is the consolidated system, which provides centralized access to all HR data. HR data that's maintained in SAP S∕4HANA is replicated to Employee Central. HR data of employees whose system of record is Employee Central is also replicated to SAP S∕4HANA for use in payroll, for example.

Core Hybrid HCM

You use Employee Central as the system of record holding HR data. Existing HR processes such as payroll, time management, or custom processes still run in an on-premise SAP S∕4HANA system. If you use this deployment option, the HR data maintained in Employee Central is replicated to the SAP S∕4HANA system to support the local processes running there.

Full Cloud HCM

All HR processes run in SAP SuccessFactors. If you use this deployment option, SAP SuccessFactors is the system of record holding all HR data and hosting all HR-related processes. Non-HR processes, such as Financials or Project Management, may still run in an on-premise SAP S∕4HANA system. Some of these processes need HR data. That's why the HR data maintained in Employee Central is replicated to an SAP S∕4HANA system.

As a company, you have decided to move your HR core processes from your existing SAP S/4HANA system to the cloud-based SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central system.

You want to continue running payroll and tax processes in your SAP Human Capital Management for SAP S/4HANA system. Hence, you opt for the Core Hybrid integration scenario.

  1. As a first step you migrate (initial load) all existing employee and/or organizational data from SAP S/4HANA to SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central by using our SAP standard migration solution.
  2. Later, you regularly replicate HR core employee data and organizational data from SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central data to your SAP S/4HANA system by using our SAP standard data replication solution.

Essential components of Our Integration Solutions Are:

SAP SuccessFactors APIs (Application programming interface):

  • Data extraction
  • Data import

Prepackaged integration:

  • Facilitate the data flow between both systems using the SAP Cloud integration as middleware.
  • Lean middleware content for connectivity.
  • Harmonized with the integration technology delivered as an add-on

: Consists of required tools and integration technology for setting up, processing, and operating the integration scenario.

Accessing the Business Integration Builder Tools

The Business Integration Builder (BIB) can be accessed through the following customizing path (transaction SPRO (IMG)): Personnel ManagementIntegration with SuccessFactors Employee CentralBusiness Integration Builder.

As the BIB serves as the framework for replicating data to and from Employee Central, the customizing structure guides you through the implementation process. It also considers the separate configuration steps required for each replication direction.

  • Prerequisites contain common customizing activities that are independent of the direction of the replication.
  • Data Migration and Replication to Employee Central contain the steps that you must follow for the replication from SAP S/4HANA to EC.
  • Data Replication from Employee Central contain the steps that you must follow for the replication from EC to SAP S/4HANA.
  • Additional Tools provides easy-to-use tools to quickly copy and compare configurations between two EC instances.
