Identifying Systems that Integrate with SAP Subscription Billing

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify the systems that integrate with SAP Subscription Billing.

Systems That Integrate with SAP Subscription Billing

Within SAP Subscription Billing, events and APIs serve different purposes and both are crucial for the management of subscription billing processes. While events and APIs are both essential components, the frequency and prominence of their use may vary depending on the specific requirements and use cases within a given organization's subscription billing operations.

SAP Subscription Billing applies REST APIs to facilitate the exchange of data when a subscription is created or modified. The system automatically generates bills based on the defined billing cycle. Also, SAP Subscription Billing offers special APIs that can be used by other systems to retrieve the generated bills for further processing, such as payment processing, financial reporting, or integration with other enterprise systems.

Note

SAP Subscription Billing supports Pull APIs only. Push APIs are not supported.

SAP Subscription Billing must retrieve or "pull" information using an API. Data can also be fed or pulled into SAP Subscription Billing from outside sources, such as a business partner with an API that allows a customer to be created in the system.

When Is an Event Needed?

If messages must be "pushed" out from SAP Subscription Billing, events are an alternative to an API. Events can trigger the sending of messages to another system. For example, when a subscription is created in SAP Subscription Billing, an event can trigger and send a welcome e-mail to a customer. Another example of a triggered event is a notification of a subscription that is about to expire.

Now that you have a better idea of how SAP Subscription Billing uses APIs and Events to integrate other SAP and non-SAP systems, the following out-of-the-box integration content will be explored in the next course units:

  • Integration with Price Calculation
  • Integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
  • Integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition
  • Integration with SAP Commerce
  • Integration with SAP Entitlement Management
  • Integration with SAP CPQ
  • Integration with SAP Master Data Integration
  • Integration with SAP Convergent Mediation by DigitalRoute, private cloud edition
  • Integration with SAP Convergent Mediation by DigitalRoute, public cloud edition
  • Integration with SAP digital payments add-on
  • Integration with SAP Data Retention Manager
  • Integration with SAP Personal Data Manager
  • Integration with SAP Audit Log Viewer service for SAP BTP

Summary

In the next Units (Explaining the Difference between Integrating SAP S/4HANA Public and Private Cloud Edition, Analyzing the Standard Integration Content of SAP Subscription Billing with SAP Systems, and Integrating SAP Subscription Billing with Other SAP and Non-SAP Systems) you will continue exploring the management of event integration in SAP Subscription Billing.
