A contract request is a project used to request a contract workspace. The purpose of a contract request is to allow someone who is not authorized to create a new contract to request one, providing key information for the contract author. For example, a sales representative can create a sales contract request that specifies the customer and commodity. A contract manager can then use the sales contract request to create a sales contract workspace containing the information the sales representative specified. Some fields can be made mandatory, requiring the requester to provide specific data.
SAP Ariba Contracts supports two types of contract requests:
- Contract Request (Procurement) - used to request a procurement workspace.
- Contract Request (Sales) - used to request a sales workspace.
Note
There is no option to create a contract request for internal contracts. To create a contract request:
- On the dashboard, choose Create.
- Choose Contract Request (Procurement) or Contract Request (Sales).
- Complete all required fields and choose the appropriate template.
- Choose Create.

Header field information in a contract request is similar to data required for contract workspace creation.
Contract Request Approval
Once the contract request has been created, the requester will need to provide all necessary details in the request before submitting it for approval. If approved, a contract workspace is created, and the contract request header data transfers to the workspace. If denied, a contract workspace is not created, and the requester is notified.
Note
Re-submitting a request is an internal process decision between the requester and the contract manager.Play the video to learn how to submit a contract request and how contract managers can create contract workspaces based on a contract request.
