Exploring and Deploying Objects with SAP Business Data Cloud Cockpit

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explore and deploy objects with SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit.

The SAP Business Data Cloud Cockpit

In this lesson, you'll learn how you can use the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit.

Purpose of the SAP Business Data Cloud Cockpit

The SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit is, with the Foundation Services, the base component of the SAP Business Data Cloud solution.

The SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit is the main user interface of SAP Business Data Cloud.

As an administrator, it serves as your central entry point for displaying and configuring the landscape.

As a data scientist or data analyst, you can find and deploy the needed artifacts.

Setting up the Landscape

You can use the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit as an entry point to see each component of the SAP Business Data Cloud solution.

To configure the connections to the different components and sources, you'll be redirected to SAP for Me.

This setup is a prerequisite to any task in SAP Business Data Cloud. You need to define the different components you want to use, some of them being optional, and also configure the connections to your different data sources. Only supported data sources will be available.

Managing Apps and Packages

SAP provides two different levels of artifacts besides Data Products:

  • Data Packages:

For deployment of all Data Products for a specific scenario, in case you want to create your own models and dashboard or use Machine Learning scenarios on top.

  • Insight Apps:

For out-of-the-box deployment of all required objects for a reporting scenario, based on an Insight App dashboard. This artifact is what you need if you want to use SAP standard data models and visualization.

Those artifacts can be discovered and deployed through SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit.

First, you need to set up your landscape. Then, you'll be able to select the source systems from which you want to extract the data. You'll also be able to search, explore, and set up the different available artifacts provided by the corresponding Lines of Businesses (LoBs).

Watch this short video to learn more about the actions required for making content available in SAP Business Data Cloud:

When displaying an available Insight App or a Data Package in the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit, you can find information such as:

  • Category (for example, Finance).
  • System Type (for example, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition).
  • Version.
  • Description and purpose.
  • Details about Data Products.
  • List of corresponding content (SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud content).

Activating Data Packages

The image shows how you search and find a data package. During installation, the Data Package and its Data Products are installed.

The result of this activation will be the availability of the corresponding Data Products through the Foundation Services.

Note

You'll then be able to use one or more of those Data Products in your own SAP Datasphere space or share them with SAP Databricks for Machine Learning Scenarios.

Installing Insight Apps

The image shows how you search and find an Insight App. During installation, SAP Analytics Cloud story, SAP Datasphere models, and Data Package with Data Products are installed.

Note

The underlying SAP Datasphere Models are deployed in a SAP-managed secured space, so you can't directly use or modify them. But they can be copied in a user-managed space.

After installing the Insight App or activating the Data Package, you'll see a list of all your chosen artifacts, with their status. For example, if you've missed a step in the configuration of your landscape, a failure status will be displayed.

In this lesson, you've learned about the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit. Business users can use it to explore available content, and administrators can use it as their central entry point to configure the landscape and deploy Insight Apps or Data Packages.
