Learning and Enablement Planning in SAP Projects: LNA Template

customized to fit your project needs. Let's take a look at what's included in the template. Business Area, Process Area, Target Group, Learning Needs, Delivery Method and Enablement Resources. The first section of the LNA template collects information on the line of Business and Business Area, which are key for structuring the learning needs. The input for these columns comes from the way the project is structured, aligned to the business units affected. Fill in this information before the LNA interviews commence. Next is Process Area, where the processes are listed, and the processes are detailed by Process Scope ID, Scope Description, Process Step, and Out of Scope or In Scope. The process scope IDs, descriptions and steps are typically defined by the project team during the process documentation stage or can be taken from the SAP Activate or Cloud ALM roadmap. The processes are required in order to discuss the learning needs per process step in the LNA workshop. This ensures that all process steps are considered and that the right enablement content is developed. Note that the processes listed here are just examples, so you can better interviews when a deeper understanding of the learning needs is known. You can start with the interviews after the fit to standard workshops are mostly completed and the project team has a clear understanding about the processes that will be implemented. The first step is to list the main topics that need to be trained. This is especially helpful when creating the curriculum later. After that, select the process relevance or business priority. The workstream lead can assess best what the priority and complexity of processes is. For example, if a process will be used frequently from day one after go live or if the business is affected in a critical way if the process isn't working, this will likely be high priority. If it is not used frequently and is not critical to the business, this will be deemed to be low priority. The number of employees can can either be provided by the workstream lead or identified from HR reports. This is not primarily about the exact number. It's much more important to get a rough estimate of how many business users are affected. This is important as learning methods may change depending on the number of business users and the complexity of the process. For example, different learning formats may be needed for several hundred end users, for example a virtual classroom delivery, then for only 10 or 20 business users learning less complex process steps where coaching and supporting online content may be utilized. With this information you now have a holistic understanding of the topics that need to be trained. Next will be the definition of delivery methods suitable for each process area. In our template we've listed the most common delivery methods as an example, which can be used as a guide. Please adapt the selection of planned delivery methods based on your specific project and organization needs. Together with the workstream lead, you can select one or multiple methods for each process. For example, for processes with low complexity and a low number of business users, knowledge transfer or coaching can be planned. For processes with high structure. The user groups affected by the system implementation will be listed and any key value drivers that will be needed to focus enablement activities on can be listed in the LNA template. Identify any organizational constraints that affect the success of user enablement, such as other projects in your organization that might overlap or cause restraints of resources, organizational changes happening due to the project or in parallel to it, important events already in the business schedule you'll need to consider, or legal or regulatory requirements that also have implications for the enablement activities. All of this can be discussed as part of the LNA workshops. With the results from the user LNA, the enablement lead has a detailed overview of the required enablement activities and can start planning their execution.
