Depending on your business requirements, the following additional options are available via corresponding apps to create production orders. You can create production orders at any time:
- Without reference to a specific requirement. In this case, material, quantity, and date must be entered manually when creating the order. From a business perspective, you use this option, for example, in the case of urgent, unplanned (customer) orders.
- Without reference to a material, for example, in case of manually created rework orders or orders for setting up, maintenance, or cleaning work centers. By dispatching the respective operation, you can ensure that the work center is blocked when the maintenance operations are executed.
- With reference to sales orders or projects.
Note
For more information about manual creation of a production order, please refer to the SAP Application Documentation.Furthermore, production orders can be created in the following special scenarios:
Assembly production (for sales orders)
In this scenario, the creation of a sales order immediately triggers the creation of a production order without having to execute the MRP run.
Collective orders
In this scenario, the creation of a production order for the finished product triggers the creation of production orders for the semi-finished components at the same time.
Variant configuration
In this scenario, you first create a sales order in which the product to be manufactured is specified according to the customer requirements. When creating the production order with reference to the sales order, the system selects BOM components and routing operations such that the product configuration corresponds to the specification maintained in the sales order.
Confirmations with rework quantities
In this scenario, when you confirm a production order and the rework quantity is greater than zero, the system creates a rework order for the reported rework quantity.
Kanban
In this scenario, when you set the status of a Kanban container to empty, the system creates a production order to refill the empty container.
