During order execution, various employees in production and in the warehouse must be informed. For example, warehouse employees need to know which material components are to be provided, in which quantity, at which time, at which location, and for which production order, and production employees need to know which operations are to be carried out, for which order, at which times, and with which production resources/tools. If you use a paper-based production process, you can print shop floor papers after order release.

SAP S/4HANA offers various standard lists containing order-related information:
- Operation-based lists, for example, time tickets, confirmation slips
- Component-based lists, for example, pull list, material withdrawal slips
- PRT lists, for example, PRT overview
- Multi-purpose lists, for example, object overview, operation control ticket
As a prerequisite for printing shop floor papers, the print control must be set up in the Customizing activity Define Print Control. As the figure shows, the following settings, among others, must be made:
- In the print control, lists are defined with regard to the shop papers to be printed. The following lists, among others, are preset in the standard system: Pick List, Goods Issue Slip, Operation Control Ticket, Job Ticket, Goods Receipt List, PRT Overview, and Object List. The Pick List, for example, shows which material components are to be staged in which quantity at which time for a specific order, the PRT Overview accordingly shows which production resources/tools are required, and the Object List provides a detailed overview of all objects and dates of an order.
- These lists are printed by calling SAPscript or PDF-based forms in print programs. The forms define the layout of the lists, and the print programs define which data is printed.
- In the printer specification settings, you can specify which shop papers are to be printed on which printers.
As another prerequisite for printing operation-related data in general and time tickets and confirmation slips in particular, the operation control key must be set accordingly and the amount of documents to be printed must be set in the routing operation:
- An operation is only printed if the Print indicator has been set.
- Time tickets are only printed when the Print indicator and the Print Time Ticket indicator are set, and when the number of time tickets defined in the operation is greater than 0.
- Confirmation slips are only printed when the Print indicator and the Print Confirmation indicator are set, when the number of completion slips defined in the operation is greater than 0, and when the Confirmation setting of the control key allows confirmations.
- If the control key of an operation does not allow printing, then, for example, then no list of the material components or production resources/tools assigned to the operation can be printed.
The figure above shows the options for printing shop floor papers: Usually, shop floor papers are printed automatically at order release or by mass or background processing. However, as a production supervisor, you may also need to print or reprint certain documents for an individual order.
Note
In general, you can only print shop floor papers for released orders. If you use operation-based release instead of order release, the system only issues shop floor papers for the released operations.
When printing production orders, a distinction is made between original print and reprint of shop floor papers: If printing is triggered for a production order for the first time, for example, by releasing the order, all released operations together with the assigned material components and production resources/tools are printed as originals. The order receives the status PRT Printed. If printing is triggered again for this order, all the shop floor papers that have been printed so far are automatically reprinted as copies. A corresponding note is printed on the shop flow papers.
